My superwinch talon 12.5i has been working perfectly until yesterday when it desides it only wants to work one way. It will reel out but not in. I've been told its probably the solenoid but can anyone tell me how I can prove this?

Right, swapped the feeds over and yes it did work in reverse. My hopes went up and started to reel in the cable. But then disaster strikes and it packs up reeling in. It did seem to be on and off at first. But now won't go in or out. I got a multi meter on the two feeds and I've got 12.5v on either cable when the appropriate button is pushed. Any ideas?

Sounds like motor brushes.

Where are you?

Mine worked intermitantly and I found out the motor was full of crap. Then the solinoid melted, all is better now tho,

Wire the winch up as Paul d did in one of his videos to check the winch, if it works then its your solinoid,

Negative from the battery is on the negative pole on the motor, you can see the rest! ;)
