Help my high lift is stuck up!!!!

i have a T-max Farm jack that seems to only want to go UP.
i've done what it says to get the cak to ratchet down but nothing happens!!
what can i do??

It needs weight, I think something like 5 kilos, to ratchet down.

If you drop the handle roughly horizontal you should be able to drop the mechanism, then move the operation lever and try jacking something up, then swap to lowering and jack it down again!

my landy is stuck with one wheel in the air! i'm guessing there is more than 5kg on it:p

any tips? i've dropped the mechanism and nothing happens... the handle goes up and down but the jack stays put!
 
Sounds like you've broken a pin .. unless, when the handle goes down have you put some effort into it? What I mean is you lift the load slightly, then the pins 'swap' and you then lift the handle slowly to drop and repeat the process ..

Is there anyone else with you? Try lifting the landy (press the handle down) and have someone tap the pin that's sticking out most with a small hammer .. and I do mean tap!!

put the wheels back on (if not already)
stick it in diff lock and just gently move off the way that makes the top of the jack go away from the truck then sort it without the load on it :rolleyes:
 
LOL, or use another jack to raise it, retrieve yours and replace the shear pin!

cant see what the drama is all about my fooker never wants to hold the landie up for more than a few minutes anyway :D try to undo a wheel nut and the fooker falls off :rolleyes::D
 
yep hitting it with a hammer tid the trick!
i tried it again on the other side(changing the wheels) and it came down properly, tho i did have to push it down before the pins swapped

No worries, the lift pins get stuck sometimes .. 'specially on mine 'cos I keep it outside!!
 
I know what you mean, DG, but I've been using one for years .. only seldom use now for the Landrover and garden, but when used right they're feckin' brilliant in my view .. but that doesn't necessarily mean I'd change a tyre with one!!

Not for supporting the vehicle without wheels; it was decidedly unstable and not recommended, particularly with evo suspension; the Landy had to be jacked up almost above my head (not difficult I know.... :rolleyes: ) to get a wheel off the deck with the extra droop-travel; bottle-jack & axle stands combo is definitely preferred! :D
 
WTF are you doing changing a bludy wheel with a high-lift?
Land Rover put a VERY VERY good bottle jack into land-rovers as standard; it has a two stage lift of around 12" and three ton working rating, and they provide two yards of jacking handle to help make it REALLY REALLY easy to lift anything with it.
Brand New they are about twice the cost of an over-priced brand name 'Hi-Lift', which has all the advantages or...... well, taking three times the effort to move the lif head the same distance; not being a convenient shape to get under anything to lift it & having three foot of iron beam stuck out the top ready to smack any body or body panel very ****ing hard when the thing slips!
Serves you right, learn your lesson and use a PROPPER jack for work-shop operations and keep the Hi-Lift for what it was designed for, EMMERGENCY use, getting a landy out of holes.... not changing wheels!

dunt yer break the tension then undo them a few turns before jacking , makes it easier to undo with the weight of the landy on the ground ?
