I dunno, catcam might end up being pretty good
Yea, you could bungee it to one of the rear wheels and calculate CRPM (Cat revolutions per minute).
Now your thinking outa the box!
I dunno, catcam might end up being pretty good
I'm not even sure what to say to that. Half of it isn't true and the other half isn't relevant to what i've asked. Kinda seems like you're twisting things in order to have a go at me.
If your wheel is turning with a socket and ratchet without too much force then it's probably ok and I wouldn't worry about it. Mine was locked solid.
If the car drives ok then just drive it. Far too much worrying about K series going on hereabouts, sure they blow headgaskets but in my experience that is not the biggest issue with Hippo's, especailly if you can do the work yourself. I will have to spend far more on the VCU than I would on a head gasket kit.
Funny you say about a cheap clutch causing it to shudder, mine is pretty bad and a cheap replacement was one of the conclusions I had come to. New clutch is my next job.
Lot of people saying crass things on here.
Proof : '40 pages of that thread' - don't they know if they double the number of posts per page it will half the number of pages - so they'd only have 20 pages to read. Fecking idots.
You're right of course. I make things up just to upset you.
You have asked whether this is worth fixing but have already made that decision by fixing certain things
I fitted a £20 regulator so i could use a drive thru and get parking tickets in the multistory car park, hardly the same league as weighing up a possible VCU at £200 or even new door latches at nearly £100
My concern would be knackered gearbox,
Wobbly gearstick. Not a knackered gearbox.
dodgy clutch,
Cheap and juddery yes.
dropped liner,
Possibly
dodgy water pump and thermostat,
Nope and nope
possible VCU problem,
Again... not even been able to discern a guaranteed test, let alone a valid fault
new head gasket on 40,000 mile replacement engine,
Due to the water pump seizing and causing overheating, not the engine itself
failed MOT on emissions.......
6 months ago and nothing to do with current problems
not windows and locking doors.
I understand this is your 1st car. We have all had 1st cars and like most I got emotionally attached to a pile of junk and wasted 1,000's on it.
Trade it in

You are very selective with the truth and rude when you don't like it.So like i said, only half of it is true. :clap2:

As I said , bye bye and happy motoring
Sigh - some are feeling very precious here. This OP just wanted the benefit of people's experiences to sort out some issues. Perhaps some mistakes have been made in interpreting wording/meaning, but we are here to help - I think. Oh, and the banter is just another free service that is offered.
I hope you get the vehicle sorted to your satisfaction. I'm really enjoying mine. I got it last Easter with a cam belt / bent valve issue. All sorted and some mod's done to boot, thanks to lots of encouragement and excellent advice from here.
It's a nice car to be able to chuck the downhill bike in and drive to the middle of nowhere without worrying about getting stuck......
I've been reading about the 2wd conversion today.....
Thank you, i've really been enjoying it up until the issues recently! It's a nice car to be able to chuck the downhill bike in and drive to the middle of nowhere without worrying about getting stuck. Sure it has some niggles, but it'll start first time, every time!
At the risk of sparking yet more controversy i've got two more questions. I've looked at the drivetrain again today and while under there noticed that the CV joint gaiter has split on the drivers side front wheel. It's not the gaiter near the wheel, but the one more central on the car so looks like i'd have to take a fair bit to pieces in order to get at it. I'd like to know if the universal gaiters (the ones you glue to size) are any good? I've read various reports from good to bad and it's been suggested that people who have problems got grease on before glueing etc so was wondering if anybody had any first hand experience?
The second question, is regards to the VCU again. I've been reading about the 2wd conversion today and a few people have said the handling of the car is massively different, almost to the point of being scary in the wet when run in 2wd mode. Like always there are other people saying it's absolutely fine and they didn't notice the difference. Anybody here with experience that could shed some light on what to expect if it comes to running it in 2wd mode?
It was meant that i can take it out and not have to worry about the car not starting and being stranded there.Oh dear
lol, I might try that - then take it straight down the warrant station if they go out
lol, I'm a tit
The inner CV boot is a three-lobed thing that you can get from any online LR supplier, e.g. Island4x4, approx 10 quid. A universal one won't fit. Wheel off, undo hub nut, undo bolts holding strut to hub, pull hub away from driveshaft to release (you may need to remove caliper to help), yank driveshaft out of 'box, be ready to catch oil, fit new boot, put it all together. I have no idea what you or others are talking about regarding glued boots.
2WD Freelander drives just fine.
It was never set up to be 2WD so it ain't optimal but as guineafowl21 says it drives just fine. Some peeps here even take the propshaft off every summer to save wear and tear.
Some claim it will be nippier and more economical too.
