sorry to say this is my first post here, having resorted to the internet in desperation.

I recently bought a L322 TD6 Vogue, and have had to have a few things fixed (tracking, steering sensor) at a different dealer (discovered the issue half way down the country) and the car was returned last week from the garage.

its sat outside all week whilst i was away and coming home tonight, it simply will not open on the key fob.

Hmm, flat battery thought I, its ok though, i will open the drivers door manually and 'pop the hood' jump start and we will be away.

really bad news is i put the key in the drivers lock and the entire barrel pulled out of the door.

so, i really cannot get in the car.

is there anything i can do tonight, or is it a call to the dealer tomorrow and a locksmith & new battery?

can i jump / connect a battery to the car from outside somehow?

I would look in the manual, but obviously its in the glove box.

this week cant get much worse TBH.

All sugestions warmlt received.

Dan

chuck a brick through the window.
phone the police and claim on yer insurance

Came close to using my 'very' big hammer a minute or so ago......

Under the car is pretty well covered with sump guards etc, and the drive has a hump so its VERY difficult to get under the front. (I am also not that thin anymore!)

Can you 'put power in' via the towing electrics? (I have two electric points)

Have you tried using a screwdriver in the hole where the lock was? you should be able to turn the mechanism in the back of the door. VW golfs do the same thing.;)

unfortunately everything seems to be electric, so there is nothing there other than the rubber touch pad.:(

have you checked out the lock hole in the door yet?

I really wouldn't like to power up anything on a Disco3 or L322 without knowing exactly how it's wired up. Even breaking into em when the keys are locked in I turn a feed to earth and not live.

Yep - just tried the door but there is nothing at the back. it looks like the barrel locks into a surrounding ring with two lugs. But the ring is turning freely now.

Its another thing that seems to have been missed in their used car 'inspection'.

do you have breakdown cover or warranty on it? If so I would use that rather than trying to power things up yourself.

Resorting to beer now and will call local dealer tomorrow to see if they can help.

If it's under warranty it should be landrover assistance that is covering it so your dealer should be able to help you get hold of them.

got any tennis balls ? If u have cut one in dip one half in water then place it in the hole in the door where the barrel came from give it a good thump (with the palm of your hand ) if youre lucky it will pop the lock for you it dont always work first go so have a couple of tries before u resort to the royal engineers tool kit ( claw hammer, lump hammer ,sledge hammer and a condom .meaning if you cant fix it f--k it:doh:

It won't work on tumble locks. A tennis ball won't have enough volume to turn an entire door into a vaccuum.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

if yer goi ng breaking windows stuck summit to em forst so you dont have to pick galss outta the carpets for the next 3 yrs!

Unfortunately the LR dealer and assist helpline confirmed there was nothing to do but break glass!!!! unbelievable that this was the only solution IMO.

So masked up the rear passenger door window with tape and smashed it witha big f hammer.

climbed in, popped hood, and jumped it no problems.

All the lights were on on the dash for a bit, but a 25 minute sit running and then drive down the drive and they went off.

Hoovered out glass and general clean up, followed by a nice 120 mile trip round M25 with no rear passenger door window.

so battery charged up, but no one to deal with no window until monday.

obviously the door lock is a warranty claim - but will i have to claim on my insurance for the window I HAD to smash as a result of its failure?

but anyone with one of these should be reassured - they are difficult to get into, even with the key!

Unfortunately the glass is still as weak as ever as you have just proved.

i was going to suggest, if you could get the bonnet open by taking the cable and cutting it or pulling it, then disconnect and reconnect the battery it usually unlocks cars for a short time then re locks it!!

but youve gone and broke a window so its of no consequence. it might be worth you testing the theory tho for future reference!!!
