So, when I was a little un, I used to help out on my grandads farm (actually probably got in the way more than helped but I tried!)
We used to go everywhere in his 90 and I adored it!

A few years ago I decided id get a series as it was "a proper land rover" I had one for just over a year, then sick of the girlfriend complaining about being too cold, wet, drafty and slow, and if breaking down as it was bodged, I sold it and looked for a defender, I found one which looked perfect, sent my dad to look at it whilst I was at work and he agreed it was lovely. The following Saturday when I was off work, I went along to the dealer only to be told, 20 minutes earlier someone had been and put a deposit on it.

Deeply upset I retired home and looked on the internet for what seemed like an age, couldn't find anything I liked so looked into Discoverys, found a nice D2 facelift which I love, went to look at it, bought it, use as my everyday vehicle and love it.

I've recently been to look with my mate at a few defenders for him, and there is just something about them which still appeals to me.
I can't afford to run and insure both and I don't want to lose the disco, but I love defenders and have seen some very nice ones I could afford if I parted with the disco.

Is this a case of the grass being greener? Please convince me to stay with the discovery!

Well, I've just moved. Got a 300Tdi Defender 110 to replace a 300Tdi Disco1 (which is rotting away from the underside up).

The Defender really is great and the extra boot space is a big bonus but it is true that for comfy ride and a few creature comforts many of us have become suseptable to the discos are a great balance. If they had managed to sort the rot problems with the Discoverys on the 300Tdi s I may still be using one but I am still glad I picked up a defender they are still attenable on my budget.

I know this doesn't answer your question but ultimately - are you a heart or a head type decision maker, work that out and go with it.

My gut advice would be to go with your heart and get a Defender.

But what if your GF is as unhappy with a 300tdi as she was with the series?

See if you can blag one for a few days to see how she likes it before parting with the Disco.

Disco's are more comfy and quieter than Defenders.
Yes there is ' something ' about defenders. It would have to be a TD5 for me.

However, Everything I've always bought that I had always wanted (cars and bikes) the novelty soon wears off.

BUT you only live once......!

I'm a big fan of 300tdis both defender and disco but I drive a disco, with a few mods a disco is the ultimate all rounder, Awsome off road, great on road, comfy, roomy etc ware as a defender will always lack in comfort and for long distance trips

I think I had a momentary lapse of thought! Probably caused by not driving the disco for a day.
We went to look at defenders for my mate in his corsa, anything would of been appealing after getting out of that I suppose!

Anyway I went outside this morning to get to work, looked at the disco and smiled.
I've decided that unless I can afford both, I'm keeping my disco, don't think I could bare parting with it.

That's settled then!

Don't forget defenders hold their money very well, so if you did get one and found you didn't get on with it you could sell it and not lose much on it.

Good decision - you know it makes sense ;)
