Help!!..I'm stumped...

Hi,

I've been working through a lit of jobs but I can't seem to find the source of a problem and now I'm completely stumped.
I have a 110 19j - it was suffering from being very sluggish, so I changed the turbo diaphragm. Great it perked up, then she went sluggish again - kinda felt like the handbrake was constantly on. Feels like I'm continually towing a ton or so as there is a load on the engine but I'm not going anywhere fast. Then the clutch started to slip. So I changed that. Funny thing was that it wasn't all that worn. New one in and clutch bearing and all was o.k. Went to France and had the same sluggish journey, plus overheating. Clutch started slipping again. Had a failed rear wheel bearing which I've now changed. Had the rear prop off and driven in diff lock, same issue. Taken transfer brake apart. Same issue. Topped up all gear all etc. it's not the motor as it feels like something is holding it back, hence the clutch slip.

Does anybody have any ideas as it's really starting to annoy me!!

What about lift pump and fuel filter? Mine ran crap until i changed the pair.

I did the fuel filter not long ago, the motor appears to be running fine but feels like something in the drive train is adding load, hence the clutch slip. I really don't want to pull the gear box again as it was a pain the ass and seems to have exactly the same issue as before

Very odd, id be inclined to check all the drive train and brakes for excessive heat after a short drive as it might show you if anything is binding seizing, maybe check the slave cylinder on the clutch and release bearing arm but thats going to mean pulling it off again i think. Even something daft like is the clutch plate in the correct way around ?, not sure if its possible to fit it wrong or if it would give this symptom as it was along time since i did mine and cant remember but all things that might be a problem.

has it had a brake master cylinder fitted recently

I had a similar problem a while back, just couldn't get my s3 to pull in 3rd so had to get home in second, it was obvious it was the back that was causing the problem, so I lifted it up and neither back wheel turned by hand, loosened the bleed nipple on the passenger side rear let a bit of fluid out and both wheels loosened and turned, took it up the road and it was fine, touch wood it has been all right ever since.

I assume one or both the cylinders were locked out and letting some fluid out allowed them to spring back

Yep, it's had both - although I'm just going to go and check its adjusted properly, and also pull the wade plug to see if it leaks.

try pulling vac feed to servo off next time it feels to be struggling

Check clutch master rod has some free play.
