 hi there, just signed up to land rover zone and im in need for some advice, i recently purchased my second ever land rover, this is a 300tdi ex-RAF hard top, lovely vehicle with a hell of alot of character, however it seems my gearbox or transmission has gone, story starts here- i was driving back from hastings and i realised the the amber transmission light was on, however i had not activated this at all, after stopping and trying everything it still would not turn off so i continued thinking its an error with the light, later on on the motorway the light turned off. journey went fine end of story, a couple days later when i next drove i began to here a rattling (gravelly) sound as if something was loose underneath the vehicle, hard to describe, this noise would come and go, untill i was driving to a festival the other day and noise got increasingly worse untill, the gearbox seized. if Pushed i could maybe find a gear or two then the same thing would happen again. Anyone have 1. any advice or diagnosis 2. best places to get this problem sorted (north london- muswell hill) 3. any other advice. It all would be very helpful as a couple of garages have not been interested. i don't know the area for decent mechanics as i've only recently moved to area from the northwest, cheers everyone:confused:

Hi there,
Can't give you any advice but on my 110 I am having a similar issue, There are no warning lights iluminated but every now and then the sound as if gravel is thrown at the under side of the car. Also sometimes the clutch will go stiff. If i let go of the clutch and then give it a proper shuff it will work. This might happen once or five times in a row and then all is back to normal. The noise and the stiffness is not nescesarilly at the same time and also not all the time (YET!!),

any advice will be very much appreciated.

If it rattles you haven't lost it!
