Good afternoon all,and a big hello from the Staffordshire borders. Just stumbled onto what i can only say is a very informative website. I'm very shortly in the process of looking for a freelander. Now i'm not very flush at the minute, so around 2 grand is my budget. Im looking for a half decent road worthy diesel model, that I can drive around a couple of farms I have to go on. The farms are very tidy, so no serious off roading is needed (Lift kits and things like that), just the normal farm tracks, and smoothish fields. I appreciate im not gonna get the world for my money, but what do you guys think i could expect for that kind of budget.

Hello andyd118. Don't know what kind of freelander you'd get for 2 grand, but if ,as you say, you've visited this site before you can expect to be on the receiving end of a bit of ribbing.

Whereabouts in Staffs are you?

Why's that then, because of my low end budget? Im just trying to get the best of both worlds. Im in Newcastle Under Lyme by the way.

I'm afraid it's not your low end budget, but the fact you're expressing a preference for a freelander.

All fairly harmless, fortunately, ask any of the freelander owners on here.
Plagued with problems I'm afraid.:D

Right, many thanks for the advice, i didnt realise they were so problematic, with the amount of them you see on the road. Is that why they are going within my budget?

If you get a freelander be ready for ridicule,,name calling ,abuse and generally being called all sorts of horrible things..
I know cos i got one:D :D :D
Apart from that ....if thats what you really want. Well its your choice BUT ive been pretty lucky with mine, lots of the others havent, mine is a 1999 model diesel, if you could find a Discovery for the same sort of money and know what your looking for with them its a better choice...thats my next vehicle when i got some spare money.
Which ever you choose mate you will get all the advice you need on here,
Both good and bad
OH and welcome from Spain..
D:D
And everyones cool apart from that Millertime he does me head in..

Sounds good to me mate, im not really to fussed what people think of them, if if i see a decent one about, ill get it.
Its not so much what they think of them as i said ive been pretty lucky with mine loads of niggles but nothing major...but that is the only thing you are always waiting for the major one, as they have been prone to a lot of serious problems.
You are ion the right track with the diesel...its a good motor, just try and find one with HISTORY...at least then you can see what has been done, also i wouldnt be to bothered with the mileage..the l Series will go on and on with the right servicing.
Any strange noises from the drive train etc walk away..
And if you know someone local whos a GOOD mech its worth taking them along.
I hope im not teaching you to suck eggs here like...
Also look at the electrics they were also a pig on the early ones.Make sure all the windows work and smoothly.
And in all seriousness there are a lot of freelander owners in this forum and i think a lot of them are happy with their motors, just got to look after them a bit more than the Tractors....
All in all i like mine and its been a good motor just. Just need some more room for me next one so its gonna be a DISCO or a DEFENDER.
One last thing if you have any doubts about the freelander you look at to buy..walk away, there are plenty out there.
D:D:D:D
