Hello and help required

I have owned my Defender for almost eight years now and love it just as much as when I first collected it. However, after eight years I now need to replace my tyres, all four of them. I have had a look online but have to admit to being slightly anxious about purchasing the wrong ones, I have the details from the existing tyres. Would anyone have any advice on where to look and purchase for the best and most reliable deal? Also, does anyone have any thoughts on using my spare (which has never been used) and just purchasing three new ones, effectively leaving myself without a spare.

Having only just joined the forum myself today I cant comment on the specifics of land rover tyres but I noticed that you said the tyres were eight years old. From other vehicles I've had I would say the advice would be not to use an eight year old tyre - particularity if the other three are new.
Typically you will have a series of numbers on the tyres - for example I was looking at a (non land rover tyre) the other day that was 285/55/R/19 if I recall correctly. The 285 is the width of the tyre in mm. The 55 is the height/profile of the tyre in mm and the R is the speed rating. The 19 is the diameter of the wheel in inches
If you have those type of numbers then go online and search for tyres - most the companies have a phone number - call them and get a price by quoting the numbers and telling them how many you want.
That gets you started with familiarising yourself on the numbers and gives you an idea on price.
Don't let any company tell you that you need different tyres as often they are trying to dispose of old stock. And ask the stock date on the tyres as they have to tell you (from memory they cannot sell a tyre over five years old but I may be wrong). The only instance perhaps that you would want different tyres to those that you have would be based on the advice of the experienced folks here who will have very specific land rover knowledge.

The type of terrain you drive on or plan to drive on will also influence tyre selection. For example, my current vehicle has two sets of tyres and wheels - one for winter , one for summer.

Type 'understand tyre codes' into google and you will find a lot of useful information.

Thank you very much for your reply. I didn't know that companies try to offload old tyres, so that is useful to know. I have put the tyre numbers in a google search and come up with alternatives, which is what has worried me. I will press on with my searching though.
