heater upgrade

Some nice upgrades here but the only problem is series 2's don't have the same bulkhead as a series 3 so theres no hole in the bulkhead to fit the heater matrix

Anyway this is my upgrade, when I got the bulkhead for mine during the rebuild I couldn't fit the smiths heater because someone had cut the tunnel out and made one from aluminium and it wouldn't fit,so I used some 15 mm copper pipe to run under the screens and used heater hose to connect to the outlets on the engine, there's no fan but it does demist the screen slowly and give of enough heat and it's great for warming your hands! :D

There's a chap on FB who posted up his pics of using a heater unit from a Polo, mounted in the passenger footwell, snuggly upto the GB tunnel, he tapped into the main water pipes and plumbed it in properly, apparently he had to put isolator valves in and 80% shut them 'cus it was getting too hot in the cab!

This is the route i'm taking...!

Doesn't sound like a bad idea....... I have a dead polo (gearbox shat itself) sat on the drive i could thieve the heater etc from :scratching_chin: :D

Got anymore info or pics?

Make of them what you will! I'll be doing the same thing to mine when I get it back, currently having the cage (well hoop bar) welded in :D

My series 3 has the heater taken from a defender. Works quite well, they did do a messy job of fitting in into the wing though, once the bonnet is up it looks like they probably used a hammer and a pair of mole grips

Make sure the engine coolant is actually getting hot....fit an electric fan and a rad muff if you need to.
