Do not buy this land rover

I went to look at it when it was originally listed as this

Where in he forgot to mention it was a cat C write off, nor at any time when I was looking at it did he tell me that it was cat C.
He then relisted it after being informed (by a higher power?) that it was a cat C and sent me an email to inform me it was relisted to which I sent this reply

Hello chap
If it has been a cat C write off it you will needs to get a vehicle idenity check (VIC) done or find out if it already has had the check done, this removes the VIC marker with the DVLA.

and there are test centres at poole and southampton, the test costs £41 pounds and takes about twenty minutes.
If the vehicle passes the VIC or you can get a copy of the original VIC certificate from the DVLA I would be happy to make you an offer.

You say at the beginning of the ad that the chassis you assume was changed in May 2011 then after you say it was changed in 2012, which one was it?

i see what your saying but he also might not really know what he is on about in terms of cars and or land rovers.

If it was Cat C in may then it stands to reason then someone could have bought it and put it on a new chassis in 2012.

If he didnt know when he bought it then he wouldnt have been able to tell you about it would he? also, he has now listed it a second time with the addition of the fact it is a Cat C. Whats wrong with that?

Also, anyone with any sense who goes to buy it wil sit down in the chaps house with there cuppa and say "right, lets sign the V5" when the owner cant produce it you might then find out it needs a VIC.

What im saying is, you may have jumped down the guys throat when he either didnt know or didnt find out. m not sayin that isnt his fault.

But you need to be open to the option that he didnt set out to deliberately deceive you.
 
He bought it less than a year ago, and is now selling it because he has no use for a 4x4? So why did he buy it?

The honest answer is I don't know. When I bought the Landie I was informed it had a new chassis and therefor assumed it was changed in 2012.
It was only after it was advertised that someone ran a check and discovered it had been a Cat C.
I had the landie checked by a mechanic before I bought it and everything looked OK. I have no history and have mentioned this in the advert. I have put down everything I know and re-advertised when I found t had been a Cat C.

He didnt do a text check thing or whatever.

Thats not his fault, a little naive but not wrong.

Im not saying he is a saint either mind. ;)

Is it legal to sell it without a VIC? Or does he just need to make it clear that it ids a former Cat C wrote-off and no VIC exists?

Surely, if it has been taxed and tested, then the VIC must have been carried out otherwise wouldn't it show up on the MoT documentation?
 
When I bought an old Mondy, it was Cat C, it was only when we applied for a new V5 and tax they said "needs a VIC" -no notice on the old V5 the seller had (norty)

Forgot to ask the vendor if it was written-off at any time ... :eek: silly me

but you book the motor in for it's VIC, they do their stuff ...
 
As it had an MoT in February, wouldn't it have been flagged up on their system ... unless it was written off after then?
 
The chassis still had the sticker on it when I looked at it and I'm pretty sure its new!

Thin that made me suspicious was the lack of any info, records or paper work for the vehicle and his almost total lack of reason for having or selling it!
