gonna be attacking a headgasket change on my range rover soon and while im at it im changing the camshaft just for good measure as she was a lil lumpy on tickover plus i think it can do with it at 95k miles

was wondering what is the best manual. book or cd to guide me through step by step?? wanna get it a do some back ground reading before i crack on

anyone help?

Do a search on here for RAVE download. Everything is in there. Check the contact face of the tappets for abnormal wear etc plus strip down the rocker shafts and rockers and look for wear on the underside of the shafts where the rocker sit. They are cheap enough to replace.

cheers for the heads up matey,

stupid question, but do these engines have self adjusting tappets?? or do they have to be set up??

i used rave when i done mine good thing about it was it has every tork setting for every single bold which is all i need to look at as it is common practice that if a bolt comes out of there it goes back there and best part of all is there is no timming belts.

You are best replacing the head bolts when you rebuild it.

i agree here u must and i mean must replace the head bolts as they are stretch bolts and are a one time use or u could end up doing it twice once is bad enough for the sake of 30 pound it aint worth using the old ones

yeah, im replacing the head gaskets, head bolts, followers, camshaft, timing chain, timing sprockets as well as every other gasket on the top half, and any thing else that is worn upon inspection

also having the heads skimmed as a matter of precaution.

what is the best gasket to use by the way, composite or the other (cant remeber off the top of my head?

my self i got the engineer that skimmed my heads to get them for me, the whole top end set of gaskets cost me 150 pound ,plus 30 pound for the head bolts he did say u can get head sets for as low as 50 pound but you get what u pay for and he didnt recommend a cheap set not on these engines and as thats all he does is heads i took his advice and he was a mate of mine so i knew he wernt trying to con me
