TD5 Piston change?

I have not done it on a TD5, but I would have thought taking off the sump, removing the big end bolts and pushing the con rod upwards would be much quicker and easier. I replaced all 4 pistons on a 2.25 diesel on A Series 3 and it was very easy. Buy a honing tool for your drill and a piston ring compressor sleeve and the whole thing should be possible in situ.
If you have driven it since the failure occurred then damage to the crankshaft should show up as abnormal wear on the big end bearing shells.

Hi yes thanks for this. Ive got the head off and not much more to go to get engine out. Was just thinking it would be easier on the bench. Ill have a look as want to get this engine all sorted now

It's far easier with the engine out imho - if you've got a crane then why struggle doing it in situ. Just be sure that the clutch is well aligned if you remove it and the cover/flywheel, otherwise getting the gearbox input shaft to drop into the spigot can be a real pain.
