unreliable, tell your o/h to get a range rover p38, that way when it breaks at the very mention of an outing past the end of the street you will get the true meaning of unreliable!!!

right i'm back off to rangey section as i dont even know what a 90 is.

i did see several in 'riverdale'(i think it was called that) not far from matlock the ovver day!! they was parked outside a house and i nearly rear ended someone while gawking at em!!!

Thanks for your help, cant speak to the o/h at the moment as we are both at work so cant give you some of the answers yet, but will find out. I have printed out all the advice and I think he will be getting the car back sooner rather than later cos the latest is that the garage still havent got any idea as to why this car is cutting out.

I think we may be heading to Surrey. Any decent pubs to stop at along the way?

Fuel lines can wear through at the back - leading to pin holes, small hole can let in a HELL of a lot of air, but not let a heck of a lot fuel out (so you may see no fuel drips).

First things first - has the filter been changed? The pumps sound awful when the filter needs changed - new filter, turn it on, sorted!

The fuel lines are being checked at the moment.

Does have a new filter which was changed in the recent service.

There is no diesel in the oil, this has also been checked.

The fuel pump noise never cuts out now, whether its a long or short run.

Ratty, the job of fixing our motor is yours...see you tomorrow at 8am...Sausages and burgers are on the barbie and a pint is on the side waiting...bring some of the others! :5bcheers2:

Now, once we get this motor started (positive thinking), shall we sell? :(

Unreliable :D

Wa'em nay engineer....but for my tu'penny worth: I had a BMW R65 motorcycle that was fairly old, it kept spluttering to a stop every so often at random. Cleaned and checked everything and it continued. Only when I took the tank off did I find all manner of evils in there (delaminated tank walls?) Any way, could it be as simple as the odd bit of gunk getting out of your tank?

Oh and if you want to venture a little Northwards Rogers of Bedford have years of experience of mending Land Rovers.

Thanks...be prepared to give us a lift home though!

No, seriously, I really hope we can keep it. I drive a really really boring car and I said to him this morning that I am bored with my car and want one of his. Reliable is boring aint it...or is reliable best??? :)

Anyway, its great that so many people are giving helpful advice...ta.

was the old pump all gunk'd up,wi like grey sludgey crap?cos mi old mans jus ad ta av a new pump on iz td5 cos it wa full of grey sludge.and a bloke i know ad the same trouble as yu n wen he pulled iz pump out the tank it had a load of fibre/material thread type crap all round it,so he pulled it all from round the gauze n stuck the pump bak in n it wa sound.so i'd tek the pump out n scrape round inside the walls of ya tank n see if its coated wi crap.hope this info is some use.jimbo

Was it a main dealer or just a regular garage thats been looking at it? I would have expected any garage worth their salt to know the signs of air being drawn in.:(

Fingers crossed that progress is being made.:)

Keep us updated.;)

:(:(:(:( THEY CANT FIX IT :(:(:(:(

We have to collect it. They are sick of seeing it! The fuel lines were all ok. They have absolutely no idea what is causing it. My boyfriend wants to sell it as scrap but I have managed to talk him out of it. We are going to try one last time. Basically we need a garage which will look over it as and when they have time, they can have it for however long they need to just as long as it gets fixed. We have managed to borrow a little run around for now.

Will speak to the garage in Surrey I think.

Out of all the land rovers for sale we manage to buy one that doesnt actually work FFS :mad::mad:

Sometimes when changing the fuel filter the old rubber seal does not come out with it, and the new filter plus the new seal is screwed back on over it. This would cause the fuel pump to squeal as it will suck air through the bad connection. Its proberly been looked at already but its worth menationing in case

I hope you haven't handed over your hard earned cash if they haven't done the job?

Are they a landy specialist or just a normal garage? Would you like to name and shame them to prevent somebody else getting treated the same?

Where abouts are you? With a bit of luck somebody can recommend a local landy specialist.

The garages are both Land Rover specialists and No, we havent paid any money, only for the parts, which we also got a refund on. They have been very good seeing as they have both had the car for weeks at a time.

We are going to try Dakar in Dartford next. Anyone been???

We are in North London but dont care where we go to get it sorted.
