Perched on the naughty step
So today I've been making a bumper with the old stick welder, some 7018 rods in 3/32nd and a bit of box section mild steel 4x2" ;)

Using my disco as a datum and some proper measurements plugged into CAD I've gone for a box section and sheet design. The box is an arse to work with and as it bested me last time I had to have another go at it!

I'll attempt to update tomorrow once I get the side panels welded on but I've got a winch tray and another front bumper to be getting on with

Basically the design will give a nice lightweight bumper, with good strength and most importantly it should look real nice :D

And how much will that cost me if you were to offer it for sale?

This one I'm tempted to put up for a raffle tbh :) However if wanted I'd think somewhere around the £185 mark via 24hr courier so £165 collected, there'll be twin recovery points which are hand ground on the wheel from 15x75mm bar as well as a central removable tow hitch.

The bumper mounts to the chassis rails using the original bumper mounts as well as to the central crossmember where you'd mount your towbar.

I've also got a tank guard that fits the bumper

Been using a band saw but I do prefer the circular ones, been on the lookout for one on ebay but theres never a good one nearby

May have to buy new and put it through books with a wood blade then buy a few metal cutting ones ;) that being said, when the welder sells I'm buying a plasma :D

Big difference between the metal and wood models they may look the same but are not the same.Very different animals. Buy new and will last a long time. Buy used off of ebay and you got someone else problem.

Speed being the main one! Wood cop saws are animals, metal chop saws are slower with more torque

honest you don't need a plasma. Buy tube stock, round and square and flat bar stock,
Is all you need. Plasma at this time in your game is just a fancy toy.
I have wanted a plasma for years. But I can do with a oxy,act torch and grinder, sawzall that I could do with a plasma. If I did lots of stainless work then it would be different

Acetylene at £150 to £180 a bottle plus rental makes plasma very worthwhile investment

Looking good doc! :D

Gives me a few ideas as to how to make my rear bumper as i dont know where to start with it:eek:

Got loads of ideas for the front mind. :)

This is one of 3 rears I've designed on CAD ;) more to come including the swing away winch version :D

Nah I meant metal saw but with the wood blade on receipt so it can go through books ;)
If it does ally and steel on two settings ally should be fast enough for wood

I cant store oxy/ace here so plasma is the best bet for me :D and more fun/precise

Looking at getting a Hypertherm once that TIG goes :) one way or another its off and I'm just going to use stick for all the heavy stuff and buy a little Kemppi mig for small bits :D

Ive got a hypertherm that cuts 50mm:D
Dont forget about the cheapo china units they work well and cost the same as a bottle of gas.

Hypertherm I'm looking at is only the 380 model I think so only good for up to around 10mm but that'll do me for bumpers and fuel tank guards :)

If I need to cut through thicker stuff it'll be a grinder or saw job I think
