Have i got a ringer

Rather: I guess I am just praying that it is just a simple chassis swop that wasn't recorded with DVLA. I have spent a bit of cash on it since buying (paintwork, new springs and shock absorbers, plus lots of bits to make it more comfortable). DVLA haven't yet come back to me, so perhaps alarm bells aren't ringing with them. I bought the landrover from a recognised dealer in Bolton and paid for it to be delivered to me by transporter (210 miles). .
 
I get the feeling that I am probably living in "cloud cuckoo land" where this is concerned. I no longer have the logbook (it with DVLA). It does not have an MOT and cannot therefore be driven. i am loathe to spend anymore money to get it thru the MOT. The dealer is 200 miles away and has not offered any assistance. I am potentially at risk of losing the £7k it has cost me..................
 
The computer in the new station will tell the tester what the vehicle last failed on as soon as the reg number is entered, to help stop people fishing around stations hoping for a lucky break.

did it fail or did he just refuse to test after doing a visual check?
 
still find this Interesting -
" The reversing light and fog light are apparently on the wrong side" .

now, if you swapped a body over on a chassis, you would have had the 2 lights in there correct places,
unless the body was previously an exported vehicle,
perhaps.

how easy is it to check the left footwell for signs of previous occupation of foot & steering controls & dash ??

I believe it's a major pita to swap left hooker for right.

I think it would be far easier for dodgy gits to swap front ends :eek:
 
The landrover actually failed the MOT so is now on the database. Have checked left footwell and there are no signs of a swop. I have read all the links given to me by you guys and they are very very informative. Thanks.
A new development is that I have managed to contact the last owner. It was an outside chance of finding him (on Facebook), as there was only one person that came up with the right name. He replied to me from the Netherlands and confirmed that he had owned the vehicle only for a couple of months in 2013 when he was in England. My friend tells me that landrover s exported to the Netherlands have to be over 25 yrs old and are subject to strict export legislation?? This could explain why the reversing and fog lamps are in wrong place and the headlamps are apparently for left hand drive.
 
so it sounds like its been overseas long enough to have to change the lights etc
when did it last pass a uk mot?

Might explain a chassis/vin swap if your lucky. Wanted a newer defender but couldn't have one because of import law, so brought a v5

yet, the garage who sold you this landrover must have seen the wrongly fitted front and rear lights in the first place....eh...
plus if it was mot`d 12 months ago, maybe a phone call to them asking how/why/wtf was going on..... its getting darker by each story now :eek:
