has anyone mounted spare wheel on side of 90!!!!!

i was thinking to do this but not sure if it would be all together safe :confused:
plus the tyres are rather big so might block mirror!!

What do you lot reckon... bad idea?
 
yeh, used to see that all the time and i'd like to have a carrier of some type n rear door, unsure about wheel on roof rack and def don't want on bonnet or in back... limits the options.
wonder how they bracket them on!!
 
Even with the extended wing mirror that's fitted to the wolf's the side mounted spare seriously restricts vision. I tried to talk my mate out of doing it and he refused to listen until he realised what a pain in the arse it is. Not at all safe in my opinion
 
i'd love to red, but the lower legs mount to the rear cross member and mine is all cut away with a solid round angled bumper in its place.
Don't really want to pay a lot of money for a carrier only to chop and dice it to try and get it to fit.. welding etc which i can't do, then it not be worth anything to pass on if no good.

I used to have mine mounted on the roof on my roll cage till I got rid of it. Got a bonnet mount now, just need to get it fitted. Depends on where you like it. I took mine off the rear door due to the stress it puts on it so the bonnet is the only other feasible option really. I did quite like it on the roof but when it came to height restrictions on car parks I sometimes forgot it was there lol.

i'm stuffed when it comes to height restrictions anyhow. She's lifted with a roof rack. Add tyre and... well it's high.
Keep pondering how long the roof rack will last when i'm able to rely on her enough to do some good laning.
So that option seems a bit heavy

You can still mount it to the door, but just keep an eye on the hinges. maybe look into getting some plate welded on to the frame and/or the mounts for the hinges to stop it stressing the hinges.

Or get a new cross member welded in???
 
The Army puts them on the side. The reason for this was on the bonnet they would bend it and crack the inlet manifold. The side with the tyre on it has a longer wing mirror mounting arm. The mount itself goes through the body and is attached to the roll cage.

i know what your saying daz.. and i've got to decide on 1 but which is the prob :confused:
Don't want to rely on having none and one of those puncture inflation cans.

decisions decisions.

really i do want it on back with swing carrier... but how!! i just don't have the means to do it and don't seem to be able to find a carrier cheep enough to butcher without mucking up a bloody good one.
 
Wheel On Left Face= wolf ,iv'e driven a 110 wolf a couple of times and never noticed any real issue with the side mount spare wheel personally.
 
it would appear to be an issue of mounting fixings on side in a standard 90. no frame as such to support that weight. Just the side panel which wouldn't do it.

With the hard top FFR variant it is still mounted in the same location then the hole is sealed.

Having driven them a lot it has never been a problem where it is located.
