oil seal needs replacing/bearing failed/binding/linings slipped/cable rusted up and not freeing/ earth fault/ none of the above :D

Probably rear transfer box oil seal, not unusual for them to leak but hand brake shouldn't get hot.

There's a square headed adjustor on the outside of the brake plate (front) on the nearside. Chock wheels, release handbrake, back off adjustor a click or two and try it.

They are often over adjusted to get through an MOT as the handbrake tends to have a fair amount of travel anyway before adding a few decades of wear and a liberal coating of oil.

i've backed off the adjuster so the drum spins free, the handbrake itself was not holding on a steep incline even when i tried adjusting, hoping to pull it out tomorrow morning, the drum itself is not hot just the smoking. Thanks for the replies :))

il keep u guys informed on what it looks like tomorrow, hopefully it comes off without too much fuss, thanks

i managed to remove the drum,in removing most of the oil in the transfer case poured out so i'm guessing the oil seal is the problem, hopefully il be able to find one,not a lot of shops sell series parts in my country these days.thanks:)
