Hi guys
Whilst the landy is in the garage i thought i would cure a front hub oil leak ( gasket leaking ) and to remove the outer hub you need to remove the half shaft castle nut ( held in by a split pin ) and it got me thinking, why do all series landy's not have the retaining clips anymore as removing and fitting one is a lot more easier than messing with a split pin 😟

Only the post rationalisation series 2/3 didn't have the castle nut & pin.

It's cheap, easy to work with, so why change?

Yeah i've done loads of the half shafts with split pins but when doing them i always remember my dads 1964 S2a having the clips and they was always easier

It was a wierd thing obviously the pin part of the clip went in the hole then the clip part of the clip gripped its self round the nipple on the end of the half shaft so you had one on all 4 half shafts

Sounds much like lynch pins, larger versions are in common use with agriculture equipment. Small versions are available, some that are a one piece of folded wire.
