Hi as the title says really. I would to know what greenlanes are near me (Bawtry) and who would be up for a little offroading. I don't want anything hardcore as my land rover is my daily vehicle and I don't want it to break if I can avoid it :)

However basically would like to know who lives near me if I fancy a little offroading or if they do.

Whilst posting this thread I've thought about something. There dosent seem to be a top post on this greenlanes section of where people are and how far they are willing to travel to go offroading and what type of offroading there after.

Example
Bawtry
40miles
Light offroad greenlanes

Could this be useful??

Matthew :)

A few 'easy' lanes near you .. but a lot will be waterlogged and there are a few that will be impassable due to morons using them as Pay 'n Play sites ..

Most lanes around us don't have good bases so when they're used a lot they develop ruts, and as there's only a few be careful and don't go alone .. take a mate with another landrover and get some practise in recovering each other!

I don't know anyone else with a landrover :) with me been 21 all my mates have mostly got little cars not 4x4s :) so basically I definitely need a land rover friend before changing any byway or greenlane?

I would like to try a bit of greenlaning,I'm the same, complete beginner at it and could do without causing any damage to my landy if possible as I use it for work,I live in East Yorkshire but haven't a clue where any such lanes are near me

Try a PM to @Paul D or @suew might help! :)

I could suggest the lanes but you would still be out on your own. I mainly lane in the Yorkshire Dales, Lakes, Wales etc, so not out in either of your areas very often.

I have put a few of the easy sustainable lanes on the link below and could let you have others if you are in the areas. You will need to set up an Viewranger account to view them, but its free.

Hmm .. notalot of lanes around Hull without going up to North Yorks or across to the Dales, West Yorks, Derbyshire etc.

Doncaster has a few suitable for beginners and I do a route around them every so often, so if you fancy a fairly easy drive, though it can be scratchy due to foliage, we often meet at M18 Junction 1 near Maltby at the Mcdonalds there, then drive around a bit, finishing near Bawtry or Retford or wherever someone gets bored! Dunno when the next one will be but if a few post up we can work a date out to suit.

If we get a week without rain we could go next weekend, Saturday preferably for me. Lanes are a little mushy at the moment, with only a couple having stony/gravel bases. They won't cause damage to vehicles, we've had bog stock P38's down them, but obviously that will also depend on foliage growth, there's nothing that needs locking diffs, though low box might be needed in some of the sandy bits. ;)

Preferably anyone that comes along will have a cb and at least one recovery point front and rear and a rope .. I've got winch and loads of ropes/strops and there's nowhere to get stuck really unless something goes wrong! Depending on time/water levels there's a nice gravelly based ford that doesn't usually need a snorkel, but I'll make a judgement on that on the day when I see the river levels. If you haven't got a cb it's recommended to get one ASAP, but not immediately necessary. Recovery points are, however, necessity ... Mostly 'cos using a recovery point if you are stuck doesn't damage the vehicle but more importantly it makes it a strong point to recover from and as a by-product it's also a helluva lot easier to connect vehicles for a tow out!

It's fun .. :)

I'll try to get another experienced laner to come with us as Tail end Charlie 'cos that just makes it a lot safer for all.

Saturday would be great for me ,I've got no CB as yet and my defender is just more or less as standard with no offroad mods, no winch or anything.i have a few tow ropes and that's about it

I'm happy for a Saturday too. No CB aswell but I can put one in that's no problem. My disco is pretty much standard so will be interesting how well it does :) mostly looking to having a chance to use my low box :D

OK, tomorrow, start at M18 Junction 1 Mcdonalds at 10am, this is on the Rotherham side of the motorway. It's not going to be a rush around, nice and leisurely .. Finish about 2pm ish or earlier if you want to.

@mattmaclaren and @steven walker there will be five of us tomorrow if you turn up .. ;) Three of us are well experienced and go laning together regularly. Another mate did the lanes the other day and says nothing's wrong with them so should be good .. ;)

Well .. thanks for the no show or the courtesy post to say you couldn't come.

No worries, we had a great day, four of us went, just got in and eaten dinner, so time out door to door from 9am ish to 2.30pm ish, 5 1/2 hours, 65 miles, nice and ;leisurely, a bit of mud a bit of crawling, a bit of water, uppy downy, sideways leany bits ... lovely lanes and good people to go with, thanks @DavidSally @maddogminder and Markonestop .. ;) (Forgot your name on here!)

Cheers Paul. What a great day. Now home, Smiley jet washed and I'm off into the bath with a beer.
Shame that you go to the trouble of making a route for newbies then having neither of them showing up, with no post on here beforehand to let you know.
For everyone's info:- Pauls time was taken up designing a route for the newbies - we waited half an hour extra for them to turn up - they let him down without an explanation. Is it any wonder newbies are thought so poorly of on here. What an opportunity they missed, being taken out for an introduction into laning by a GLASS rep. Not as though Paul had any other GLASS work he could have been getting on with.......
