"green lane cover"

How can an insurance company offer green lane cover as an optional extra? Surely you're either insured for driving on public highways, or, you're not? Do I need to check they cover motorway driving? What about B roads, or even C roads? I don't get it

Most do not cover green lanes as a standard coverage. Only cover hard surfaced roads, the way I understand it. But there is 1 insurance company that offers it with there 4x4 coverage as standard

so if somebody crashed into me leaving a car park which happened to be a field, they wouldn't be insured?
