Update - New 1.22 transfer box ordered from Ashcrofts today. Will hopefully turn up next week. The 1.67 box is fine but 70mph flat out just revs it too high. Hopefully the 1.22 will make a difference for my style of driving and enable me to cruise at 70mph instead of scream along at 70mph. Just got to decide now though... do i keep the 1.6 incase I ever want to fit huge wheels/tyres or do I just send it back and get my refund....... Next after the transfer box will be matting and sound insulation. :)

One of the best mods I ever did that :)

I had to boost the turbo & tweak the injection pump though afterwards as the old girl (200tdi 110 SW) used to struggle a bit on long hills fully loaded- Goes like stink now though, will sit at 75/80mph all day long !

There's mixed opinion from what I read. My 90 was a 1.4 and was fine. With a 1.2 I reckon it will be geared more like a disco which is fine. A rarely carry anything in the back and when I do it's just my camping stuff which doesn't weigh much. I don't need 80mph though. Just a quiter 70. Glad to hear your 110 csw is fine even loaded.

Don't get me wrong, I don't drive mine at 80mph either, just saying that it will if i wanted it too. I like to cruise at 65/70mph too.

I used to have to slip the clutch on a hill start too!! that I don't need to do now!

My mate bought a 90 that had a Disco t/box and was all for putting the original Def box back on until tweaking the pump/turbo.

Suck it and see :)

yeah - according to ashcroft site military defender gearbox is geared lower too. Its so low with the 1.6 that I dont even use 1st gear at the moment. 2nd pulls away fine even on slight hills. So im sure it will be fine with the 1.2 ratio box.

According to the ashcroft ratio calculator this is is the ratios -

Defender military box / Defender 200tdi box
1st Gear 3.985 / 3.692
2nd Gear 2.519 / 2.132
3rd Gear 1.507 / 1.397
4th Gear 1 / 1
5th Gear 0.831 / 0.77

Either way if Ashcroft have it wrong and it is only 1 and 2 that are shorter then thats still fine for me. :)

56a is 200 tdi fitment and is slightly taller geared than 50a (civillian )or 51a (military ) in that it uses disco ratio for input 50a and 51a use 21 teeth on input and 34 on l/s pinion,56a like disco 55a uses 22 on input and 33 on l/s pinion ,the differeence between 50a used on all defenders that arent tdi and 51a is 1st and 2nd ,but even so the difference between 50 sand 56a is minimal and most people dont notice difference

Just spotted this kit on ebay. Less than I paid. £10 plus post. Cant be bad.... wish I had spotted this before I bought my one. LAND ROVER WOLF TUM RAD-HAZ RADIATION PROTECTION KIT | eBay

Does that include all the padded lining?? Or just the straps and stuff.

Ive never seen these kits befor eim abit confused as to what it is or what it includes.
Im wondering if i could make it fit my Defender 90 to give abit more warmth/sound deadening.

I'm not sure what that kit is. It looks like everything but you should check. I bought the kit from a different seller and it came with all padding and fixings.

Brilliant think ill give the bloke an email to see if its complete kit and then order one up for £10 its worth the shot!!

Cheers!

A few pages back elefantman off here said he was going to order one of those £10 kits - you should PM him and ask him what he got from it

Thanks for the door photos. I can see why mine leaks. No seal !! It is sitting on the door and they (army) plastered the door with paint !! Guess I will fix that where I sand down the paint etc later date cheers

:) I got one of the 10 quid kits.. and was very happy.
3 panels and fitting kit (velcro, studs, mounting rubbers, nuts/bolts and some pop rivits). Figure the kit is enough to fit a soft top but I'm having a serious think about how to make it fit my 110 hardtop.
but for 16 quid including delivery (next day in my case).. it's a no brainer!

I'm trying to work out how to fit it into a 109 hardtop at the moment. Damn good product for the money thought.
