Looks like a great trek. Are you likely to do it again anytime soon? At the moment my Disco 2 is pretty standard (only had the rear air suspension replaced with springs). I am looking to get things like diff, steering, sump and fuel tank guards, and some steel rims with decent off road tyres. I have done a couple of easy lanes as it is but itching to get out and do some more.

Do day trips all the time but are usually last minute decisions. Just keep checking regular and ask then. To be honest there has only been 2/3 vehicles each time so shouldn't be a problem. You will only need some half decent tyres but some of the lanes can give your paint work a rub or two.

I'll keep a look out then. I'm definitely planning on a second set of rims with decent off road tyres sometime soon. And not too fussed about the paint work, the main reason for getting th e Disco was to get into green laning.
I noticed Peter_mcn is part of the Redditch 4x4 group (as am I), are you with them too?

No mate not me. If you look in the Land Rover mags people like Craddocks are doing good wheel and tyre deals. Fit these and cut down your front bumper skirt and you are good to go

Just really need to get the money together really. I've seen some steel Modula's for £36 per rim, and being in the tyre industry, I can get some good prices from a couple of wholesalers (although its through another of our engineers) when it comes to tyres. I was thinking of the Cooper STT, looking at them I thought theyd be good, and have also heard some good feedback about them.

Really don't know much about tyres. I use cheap remoulds especially the Insa Turbo Dakar. These are great on muddy lanes and quiet on the road. Have used expensive one before and find it soul destroying when you gash them on a sharp rock or outcrop and have to scrap them. The special track are great in mud but ruin your hearing and shake your fillings out. Currently Craddocks offering 4 Dakar tyres on silver modulars (235/70x16) for 499 quid and they fit straight on your car with no cutting body or adjusting anything

I had thought about the Insa Turbos, I'm quite keen on the Dakars, plus they are cheaper than 'new' tyres. That will be my back up if the Coopers prove a bit costly, especially considering the probability of early replacement!! lol.
I'm going to get some OS maps, and plan on knocking up a few routes, although its surprising how few lanes there are around the Stratford on Avon area!!

Great to see another D2 being used for something other than towing
, you should get some tyres and get your name down for the Wales weekend trip. What mods are you thinking of doing to your D2? Always nice to talk to someone else about these things as you don't see to many D2's modified.

Having seen a number of D1's opted for the D2 as the underneath seems a lot more solid (only heard of rot affecting the rear chasis).
Obviously, a set of wheels with a set of M/T tyres, then planning guards for sump and steering, diffs and fuel tank. Those are the priorities. Then, will be the lift (already running on springs on the rear) around 2 inches. After that will be a front winch bumper and winch, then a roof bar with spots. at some point a snorkel may be a good idea too. I am possibly thinking maybe a wicnch at the rear as well, but may have to consider the extra weight, although would be handy getting out of some situations.
For now though, I'll be more than happy to tag along for any nice easy going lanes.

Good point about the light rail. Just thought it would be one option to give extra light in those occasions when you're laning in the dark.......and blinding those annoying little twerps that seem to think its cool to drive with their front fogs on all the time!! lol.
I'll be changing the bumper at some point, so wouldn't have to worry about cutting it back to accommodate tyres.

I may have had some height issues the other weekend but I've never broken any spots either on my roof bar or rear ones on my roof rack, best solution is to have the smaller rectangular spots possibly with the plastic mesh over them.
