GKN prop bearing

Has anyone ordered one of these recently? I ordered one from Island 4x4, specifically GKN (TOQ000040GKN) and it’s arrived in a Britpart box with no GKN branding.

Should I expect a GKN on the box and stamped somewhere on the bearing? Any other clues? Usually a decent manufacturer puts their name on their stuff.

If it’s aftermarket it’s not worth fitting, in my experience.

Looks like a tiny little scam to me.

The bearing is unbranded (should be FAG), and is mounted eccentrically in the rubber. The rubber itself is not centred in the metal surround. The bearing’s axis is tilted from the surround’s axis.

The box was marked TOQ000040G, apparently Britpart’s better range. G should stand for genuine, not aftermarket.

Genuine bearings have FAG on the red rubber seal.
I suspect those are lower quality bearings, given that they come in a ****part box.

Yes. Going straight back - I’ve fitted four or five various aftermarket versions over the years and they’ve all failed within a year.

You can see why - the cocked bearing will be put under undue pressure, and the seal is poorly fitted, already leaking some grease. Grease out = water and salt and grit in.

I'm having similar problems with Island 4x4. They supplied me with what were supposed to be Lemforder wishbones. They arrived in Britpart boxes too but it was obvious they had been opened and re-sealed and they told me the boxes were for transport purposes only.
Balljoints have gone after less than 2000km so I'm assuming they were ****part!
Waiting for confirmation from Lemforder UK that the parts aren't theirs.

This is the reason why i never buy from island 4x4. They seem to have confused the meaning of a genuine land rover part, with a cheaper lower quality part which will genuinely fit. The chance of it fitting is not necessarily the case.

For reference... the bearings in this link are land rover genuine parts bought from a land rover main dealer. They have eggsample fag markings for comparison.

Interesting. It’s sad because I’ve been buying from them for years. Let’s see what their response is. They replied quickly to my email asking if the item was GKN (“It should come in a grey box and have FAG on the bearing”).

Invoice shows check marks by the packer and quality control.

I immediately sent back that neither was the case, so please send out a proper GKN. They haven’t replied to that one, but it was nearly 5 o’clock.

Apparently they’ve sent out a replacement and have arranged for pickup of the old one. Good stuff.
