Hi having big problems with the gems v8 that We've put in the Trialer we're building basically it is a 4.6 gems v8 out of a p38 we have used a 50th anniversary loom with a mark adams unlocked and chipped ecu, the problem is the engine fires then dies straight away you can keep it running all day if you Rev it but does smell rich, if you unplug the MAF it will star and idle very happily and also Rev and drive ok but again smells rich,

So far I have checked the fuel pressure which is a good 35psi plus all the time,
Swapped crank sensor with two others I have
Replaced idle air control valve
Swapped tps with another one
Tried numerous maf's both second hand and aftermarket
New cam sensor
New ect sensor
Had chip swapped into different ecu (now have two unlocked and one chipped)
Also bought hawkeye and have reset adaptive values loads of times!

It's really annoying as I think it's very close to being right, when the maf is disconnected it idles ok and revs freely and is very encouraging! Here's a pic of the vehicle as it sits tonight! It's entered in the alrc national so need to get it right soon to do some shakedowns!

Had a good spray round with brake cleaner and doesn't seem to have any air leaks, replaced the valley gasket with new genuine anyway to rule it out

Does sound like an air leak. Doesn't have holes from LPG injectors in manifold does it? I would think you would notice though

wont hawkeye give any live readings??

tis why i run megasquirt on mine....laptop tells all..and cheaper ..

Sorted!!!! Found to be an air leak well done all those who suggested!! I have removed the coolant device from the underside of the throttle and the bolts that hold it on go through into the manifold, sounds obvious now sat here typing but was pulling my hair out!! Found in the end by smoking the manifold, if any one ever wants to do this I would suggest not buying the obseanly expensive tool from snap on or Mac instead buy a cheapo disco smoke machine!! £30 delivered instead of lots of ££££££
