Hi all. Could anyone tell me if it's possible to fit a R380 gear and transfer box from a discovery 1 into a 1988 110. The 110 has a 200 tdi in it already I believe is from a discovery.

If it's on the original gearbox then it'll most likely be an LT77 gearbox with a short bellhousing, and the Discovery gearbox bellhousing is longer so you'll either have to move the engine forward or do something else. Depending on the engine you've got the bellhousing bolts should line up.

Pictures or knowing exactly what you've already got will certainly help here. You might already have a Discovery gearbox in which case it'll be a lot easier. I fitted a Defender R380, a Discovery LT230, and a Discovery 200Tdi into my 110 and it was fairly painless although I had to put in different engine mounts anyway and move the engine forward to allow it to all fit easily.

Hi thanks for the reply. It already has a 200tdi engine from a discovery in it when I bought it. I believe that it has the lt77 box going by the reverse gear position although not sure what it's from. There's a R380 discovery 1 short shaft gearbox and transfer box for sale local to me though the bell housing doesn't seem to be short. The seller assure's me that it will fit though the levers would be further back.

Put some pictures up of the engine bay and as long as your gear levers are in the right place that'll show what gearbox you have (bellhousing length anyway). If it was a Discovery LT77 then either your engine would be further forward in the engine bay, or your transfer box would be a lot further back and your levers would be between the front seats, not to mention the different prop shafts that would have had to have been fitted. I'd imagine it's going to be the original gearbox.

I can understand why you'd want to change the transfer box, but why do you want to change the gearbox?
