gearbox fault p38 1996

One interesting incident I experienced today ,it was the appearance of the "gearbox fault" message when I went round a sharp right hand curve.
is it normal ?
after a while , i turned off the engine , and i restarted it , so the message disappeared ...

Hi, I had the same problem. An auto electrician sorted the problem after doing a dianostic check and recieving the fault (Bad conection). He told me that all he did was to pull the conecters apart and reconect them a few times and this was enough to clean them up. All has been well since.

Almost certainly a bad connection or even first signs of alternator/battery problems as "gearbox fault " is almost always the first message a flat/not charging battery throws up

hi mate ..
i changed the battery 6 months ago ! so do you think it could be damaged during this time ?

You never know - a lot of duff batteries out there
Got to be worth checking your terminal connections are tight and check what voltage you have there and what the alternator is chucking out
At least it would eliminate this if everything is OK - always best to start with the simple things when trying to diagnose a problem

Hi, I believe they are located under the header expansion tank and very often get wet when we spill water when toping up. Unfortunatly I was not there when the auto electrician did the job so I did not see it first hand.
