Out the front, spanner in hand
:doh:Just replaced knackered LT77 in me 110 with a supposedly good one, it works but somethings not right. Unless you get the angle exactly right it won't go in gear properly and crunches, particularly 3rd, and it feels like 1st and reverse are too close together so that its really tricky changing down into first. Couple time i changed down into first and it feels like its locked up completely. Once you've selected a gear its fine tho - am wondering if its just a selector issue and if there's some adjustment can be made to cure it, did a search but couldn't really get any good pointers.

I've had series gearboxes apart plenty times and they are easy to get your head around selector wise but the LT77 is totally different, looks orrible when you get the top off as u can't see the forks or anythin.

Any ideas? Of course, i realise its possible that the box is just fooked

series use 3 selector shafts ,lt85 4 ,lt77 and r380s like modern boxes uses 1 ,on extension housing under gear stick turret is on drivers side rev plunger ,some plungers stick ,some are adjustable and all can be altered with shims between it and housing,on turret are 2 6mm bolts 10mm spanner needed to adjust spring pressure on lever and position of lever which should be 3rd 4th when pushed to one side and left to spring back to its natural position ,grinding usually indicates clutch not clearing completely or worn baulk rings with the latter more likely, not an easy diy job, though id help if you were near

ok will try that. I have a decent discovery box available that i could swap, remember reading somewhere that you could get an adapter for the selector shaft that allowed you to swap the gearstick housing for the defender one over and it would match up to the shaft so the levers come up in the right place - anyone know of this or done it?

The box thats in there now is a hybrid disco/defebnder with long bellhousing and defender selector housing so the above would be a good option. I don't fancy having to break down the boxes and reassemble them from scratch.:(
