Hi Nick,

It's 65p/ltr at our Morrisons & I get 10p/ ltr off vouchers when shopping there (which we do most of the time). Means I can fill the tank full to 90ltrs for £50 which lasts me on my usual Sheffield - London & back journey. Works out cheaper than the previous diesel Touareg on the same journey by far.

You are right.... Preventative maintenance would maybe have um.. prevented this.. But I suspect a main seal gone and there's a lot of seals on a p38....but not as many as on Iceland.

Anyway, FYI, vaporizer/regulator had done 80k mostly motorway and saved me a shedload of money in fuel costs so 20quid for a seal kit aint so bad.

Has anyone done a omvl dream reseal and can give me any pointers ???

I did my eas compressor and valve block last week and it now works like new....well impressed, easy and interesting job to do.

Give Tinley Tech Cambridgeshire a call, I spoke to them about a OMVL rebuild awhile ago and I think they have a kit, or will be able to point you in the right direction, very helpful people.
 
Well its done now......and I will suggest if you have a 5ish year old / 80k omvl dream vapor/regulator then you do the seals urgently.
Nearly all the rubbers and gasket were totally crap. Main gasket actually shattered.
I guess its a very harsh environment in there.
Easy enough job to do, lots of cleaning and crap removal. But what a difference, she picks up quicker / smoother and hums along now.
That aside as a safety point do the seals as I recon it dumped 30 to 35 litres of LPG into our street without warning.
Also did the fluid filter on top the unit as I was waving my spanners around.
System half filled to start with and I will check every 20 seconds but so far so good.

You want to find out why you lost 35 litres of gas.

As someone before mentioned there should be a valve on the tank, and another at the vaporiser too. If any seal goes (whilst you have the ignition off) you should only lose what's in the fuel pipe, and the the fuel rail.

It's these built in safety measures that make LPG the safest fuel out there.

No chance whatsoever. One of my very first posts on here was posting a vid of a 0-60 test coz a chipped p38 diesel owner wanted to know if his car was as fast - the answer was an emphatic "no". I didn't even bother with sport mode. (never do)

A decently tuned diesel may just keep up with a 4.0 - but not a 4.6. I'm sure you could spend £3-4K buying a massive intercooler, a bigger turbo and lots of remapping to beat a 4.6 but a chip ain't gonna do it - the 'box will melt and the engine will probably pop its head gasket after a week.

The manual diesel picks up faster and the gearbox can handle a chipping as it is the R380. Be gentle with the spiral clutch springs though! Not sure the M51 can take much more turbo? I was under the impression it didn't have a lot left to give?

Think you're right though, even doing all that it is probably not quite up to the 4.6. Will try a drag race if it is quiet on the bypass one night and someone is around with a 4.6.

Hey Steve, your making far too much of a rational statement for the old diesel / petrol debate...but +1 anyway,

For me, it's not really off the mark performance anyway, but more for a relaxed refined drive, without having to plant the right foot to get anywhere..
 
You should have 3 solanoids I the system assuming its a single tank

One on the gap
One on the tank and one in line as it enters the engine bay which can also have a filter

Buckinghamshire's a big place but I'm fairly close to parts of it. See how your chipped diesel fairs against a tired high mileage 4.6 - I don't hold out much hope for you! :) Both are slugs of course compared to most cars - only one is sluggier! :D

Well I have always said I could keep up with a 4.0. I know that for a fact as a friend tried to lose me in her's, not a hope and she could drive.:)

Mine's not chipped! Fuel pump already tired so don't want to stress it more! I still think the manual picks up faster though.

Be interesting to see how they compare. Up for that one evening.

A335 just off the M40 towards Beaconsfield has a short section of duel carriageway that might do it. Or further on there is a stretch of dual carriageway on the A413. Probably take me 30 - 40 minutes to get down there.

Oh no, his isn't chipped, he will have no chance. I've already done it against a 4.0. Even, till we got to the bends then it was bye bye to the 4.0.:) Doubt I could keep up with a 4.6 but I would overtake it when it had to pull in to refuel.:D

Just done usual Sheffield - London & back, no stopping for fuel (£55 worth of LPG) :p
