Fuel tank - how to connect it up?

I've made a big steel fuel tank. For various reasons, the pickup will be a rigid pipe running into the tank through a stainless steel access plate.

How would you go about creating said pickup? It needs to pass through the plate without creating a leakage route, and on the outside of the tank it needs to interface with the usual nylon tube. Thought I'd consult the collective Landyzone hive mind before diving in.

Any thoughts very welcome!

Could you not use the pick up pipe from a series tank and the associated gasket? If the pipe is not long enough, extend it to meet you requirements. Or drill the hole in the top of your tank slightly bigger than your pipe and fit a rubber grommet round it.

10mm compression tank fitting with a fibre washer or braze it into the access plate.
If you drill right through the fitting to remove the stop inside you can then feed the pickup tube right through to the depth you want and lock it into that position with the nut and olive. Another fitting 10mm to 10mm compression on the end of that pickup pipe to take 10mm nylon.

So I can be sure I've understood - you're suggesting I use standard plumbing fittings, with an adaptor to interface plumbing fittings to LR fuel fittings? Sounds straightforward and sensible.

Yes, it's quite simple, however, after a very quick Google I can't find a 10mm brass compression tank connector!
No biggy really.
You can use a 15mm to 10mm reducer in a 15mm brass compression tank connector.
Or
Weld solder braze a steel nipple (1/4 or 3/8 bsp)in the access plate and use a 1/4 or 3/8 BSP to 10mm compression fitting drilled out to remove the internal pipe stop and carry on as per my first post.
I did this on my old Renault camper van.

Here's the access panel. The fittings on the left are pass-throughs for the fuel level sensor. On the right are the fuel feed and return. I haven't fitted the reducers yet.
