Hi all, can someone clarify for me about fuel caps.
Lost my fuel cap through my own fault, forgot to fit it back on and drove away with cap on bumper which then disappeared. Have fitted a cap from Halfords £4.99, does the job but says on the package "temporary Fuel cap".
As i still have the locking flap why do i need to replace with a genuine or lookalike cap. Is there a proper reason for this?.

thanks

thanks for the quick answers, will get a proper one ordered and rig some kind of retainer strap. put the loss down to now being 70 and starting to forget some things. the temp has an airhole drilled into it.

cheers

Did the same thing when I first got my disco left it on top of the pump, I went back to the garage but they didn't have it although they gave me a box with around 20 filler caps in for look see if it was there :)

Left mine at the petrol station. Of course by the time I needed to refuel, the station had been rebuilt and they had thrown out their box of buckshee filler caps. I got the Halfords locking cap mostly so that I had to use the key, attached to my vehicle keys, so I couldn't drive off without replacing the filler cap.

If its one of the push in temp caps then its no good...

If its one of the screw up tightening caps then its legal and OK...

Either way its best to get a new one...

we are breaking 2 discos at the moment £8 for a used one posted ! hows that for helpful
