Hi All,

I'm new to this Forum, so finding my way around the web site.

I'm having a problem where my 2002 Td5 Dicovery keeps cutting out. I've replaced the pump and fuel filter. Happens itermitantly especially if the motor is under load. Pull to the side, wait a bit, Ignition on a couple of times, then starts.

Someone on the forum mentioned something about the outer pipe on the pump side. (My pipes have colour coding on them - White, Green, Blue, Black - the ouside ones being White and Black (As a matter of interest what functions are related to the colour coding).

Some info will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, that's OK in that order, you should rule out the injector copper washers at this point, also did you check for oil in the ECU red plug ? if you find oil there the injector loom must be changed too

Colour codes of the pump terminals are illustrated in RAVE but here's a summary -

White : Air bleed return : Connected to fuel filter housing left front port
Green : High Pressure feed : Connected to fuel regulator on engine block
Blue : Low Pressure feed : Connected to fuel filter housing left rear port
Black : Low Pressure return : Connected to fuel filter housing right front port

As to the engine cutting out, did you have these symptoms before you replaced the pump and how do you know that it's down to fuel starvation ?

What makes you think it can't be an intermittent electrical fault?
Was the tank clean when you did the changes?
why did you change the fuel pump? i.e. did you have this fault before or after the recent work?

white is connected to the outer rear port with the air bleed valve

Outer left, same thing.... but we digress....

Define...."Cut out" Is is a short cut out, ie loses power for a fraction of a second, or the does the engine die, and you have to pull over, to restart, like fuel starvation ? Just ruling out an over boost on full load...

Thanks guys. It was injector washers. The old pump must have been pushing a lower pressure.
