Long time we've seen any of them didn't we ? Almost forgot how to take them and most important (for ming's sake) how to add them to the post, but with a bit of luck and a lot of courage I managed.;) :D :D :D :D
 
nuffer good tip, if yer wanna change that filter [td4] soak it in penertration 24hrs afor startin job, as its in a stupid plastic cowel that can be a right pig ta git orft. . . .
 
And another good tip. When you replaced the filter and everything ready to be installed again, make sure to spray lots of WD40 or some other greasy stuff on all the pins, hooks, slots etc. in the back of the plastic holder having the two cowels as well as on the plate which is screwed to the car's body. That will make things much easier as dry plastic on dry plastic is not the ideal combination..

Also pay attention/make sure that the small earth connection in the back of the front cowel is attached.

Thanks for the pics. I have also discovered thumbnails you posted sometime back. All systems should be GO now,may have a crack at it the weekend, if not will leave it till I come back from France in Sep. Will let you know how I get on

Hi there. My TD4 has teh filter behind the rear wheel. Can anyone tell me when it should be changed. I have nerly 60K miles covered and this filter was never changed yet. Is it a big job to change it?

Hi Dave, It says in the workshop book to change every 5 years but i would advise every 2 years, thats about every 20k. I have changed my filter twice, the first time it took about 2 hours as the nuts and bolts where stiff has it had never been changed and i tried to change it while the pump and sedimentor unit was still connected to the car, its very hard to get the filter out of its casing, so the last time i did it i removed the hole unit, thats easy to do and makes the hole job very easy, took about an hour, you will need to remove the rear wheel and plastic cover under the wheel arch,

My tip for this job if you intend to own the freelander long term is to replace the screw with a really long one. even if it is slightly fatter you can still get it to make its own thread. wind it in enough so you can feel it come out the other end of the bracket (but not so far it goes into the arch metal of course). Next time you service it will be much easier as the screw sticks out in plain view!
