I have been toying with the idea of getting a second hand 110 SW TDCI to compliment my ever faithful 200tdi 110 SW but have been put off by their terrible fuel consumption.

Now correct me if I'm wrong as I may be a complete stupid bastid :D but Land Rover on the Defender alone has been changing an engine every 4 or 5 years for the last 20 to keep up with ever stringent euro pollution emissions.
And with every engine change the the fuel consumption goes from bad to even worse, so if a 2.4 TDCI is doing 23mpg compared to a 30+mpg 200 or 300tdi surely as it's using more diesel to do the same mileage the overall pollution will equal out !

No ?? :confused::confused:

For the same reason that stupid people think that hybrids are more energy efficient and 'eco-friendly' than straight diesel/petrol engined vehicles.

Ooooh look, I've just got 269mpg and i can't even see the smoke from the power station that supplied the bulk of it from here with my head up my bum! :violent:

these eco boxes also do more damage at the end of there lives when they have to dispose of all the batteries! And making the car does more damage as the gotta ship all the materials in from exotics ?

Same problem with this LEZ bollocks in London my old Daf 6 pot would do 20+ mpg nice new shape 4 pot Daf LF 16 at best! They are putting smaller engines with more HP dragged out of them to drag the extra so called polutants through the exhausts and abatement filters end result engine does 250 k miles and not 900 k and uses more fuel .....no doesnt make any sense at all :confused:

They do untold environmental damage mining the cadmium for the batteries as well. Just google it.

Riles me no end! I do a lot of work on landfill sites so need the Landrover to get in some ****ty places. Was at a local beauty spot recently when the alarm went off and some santimonious tw*t in lycra commented to the rest of his buddies 'serves him right for having such a gas guzzler'. Red rag to a bull time I'm afraid. Much to the amuesement of my mates I laid in to him and told him if he didn't dispose of any waste to landfill I wouldn't need a Landrover. His mates tried to apologise for him and said he was only joking. I told them he was a dickhead who'd just made a right ar*e hole of himself.

Rant over.
