Hi put on a new fuel filter earlier - tried to prime it using the lift pump - didn't feel like it was doing anything - so filled the new filter from a jerry can and fitted it.

Now the engine won't start :(
To make matters worse its torrential rain here now :(

Is there a quick fix?

Cheers

Quickest fix won't be the best. Sounds like ur lift pump has had it. Or the cam is in the lifted position. Turn the engine over for a click then try again

300tdi?

There is a bleed screw on top of the filter housing

Small flat head screw on left hand side

You sorted this yet?

Crack the nut on each injector in turn and turn the engine over till you get doozel squirting out.... WATCH YOUR EYES!

Best thing i can suggest mate is to get to a local motor factors and get a new lift pump. They aint that expensive and they can make a hell of a difference if its replacing a duff one.

Once the new one is fitted (jus two bolts, very easy) Use the priming lever and bleed each item in the circuit in turn. Filter, then pipe to pump. Once all that is clear, turning it over should force any air in the pump out and thru the injectors in very little time

While ur out gettin the lift pump, get ya battery on charge

300 tdi could have air leak at sender unit in tank under plate in boot floor ,at sedimentor inside of rear chassis behind rh rear wheel ,fuel is sucked upto lift pump, lift pump could be poor , edc engine pump is operated by ecu is it still immobilised

Got it started after cracking off the injector feeds at the top of the injectors.
Took it for a quick spin and it seemed fine.
Managed to stall it on the drive :(
Now it won't start - nightmare!!!
How can i check if the timing belt is ok?

SORTED phew!
Had a good look round and noticed that the wire had come off the stop solenoid!
Put it back on and it started straight away!

I must be the winner of "idiot of the day"!!!!!!

Oh god. That's too funny. Still, best its something simple and now it's sorted. I'd rather be an idiot with a working car than a smart ass broke guy with no car

Glad you got it sorted, It is a right pain when you spend ages looking for a problem in one place and it turns out to be someting so simple that you just over looked!!

Good you got it going because by the sounds of it your having a lot of rain!! You may need it!
