A cheap multimeter is all you need. As long as it measures dc voltage, amps and ohms. They cost about a tenner. The expensive ones can test capacitors and transistors, you dont need one of them. If you plan to do any work on the vehicles electrics a multimeter is a must. A test lamp will only get you so far. I cary my cheap meter in the landy at all times.

Evening sir, I have managed to get a multimeter I have worked out how to find dc and how to plug the red and black probes into the right holes the put red probe onto the left or right indicator wire but where do I put the black probe? Also sorry to be a pain with all these questions but where do I buy a new hazard switch from I have looked on Paddocks and Craddocks with both of them showing just normal switches and not the square box mine has on it?

I've seen indicator flashers slow with age, they just get old and don't work properly anymore.
Could also be an earth/switching problem, but my bet is the flasher
Evening sir funny you should mention earth problem when I said the hazards work but flash slowly I double checked what you said about earth problem I have noticed that the indicators on the front there was no earth lead plugged into both the front indicators!!

the side lights and indicators should all have 2 wires coming off them , one of them being black which is the earth these can join together in a female bullet connector and should be earthed to chassis
If you found only the 12v supply connected then that will be the problem

Yes, its a right rats nest of wiring behind the dash. Be carefull, its very easy to disturb summat and then you find something else isnt working after you put it back together, on mine, its always the dash lights.

Morning sir, apologies for disturbing you. I have been on my truck today still trying to sort the indicators out, I have run some more earth leads to both indicators now the right indicator is working nearly fast enough and I can hear the like clicking noise coming from the back of the dash behind the panel but when I try the left indicator it hardly flashes and I can’t hear the clicking. With dash panel unscrewed there is a small metal tube with 4 connector’s! I have taken some photos to try show the relay also the box on the back of the hazard pull switch. Also there is another small rectangle box with 3 connectors this I know it has nothing to do with the indicators I was just wondering if you knew what it is??

Hello the cylinder unit is your indicator unit, it looks pretty old so it might be that causing your problems. The last pic has the word Hella on it so its something to do with your lights is this the unit connected to the hazard pull switch? If not, it might be a relay for Hella spot lights which might have been removed by a previous owner. If the flasher unit isnt clicking for left indicator its either a bad connection or the flasher unit is faulty.

This flasher unit has four connectors do I need to get another unit with four connectors or will 3 connectors be ok?

The fourth wire I just checked was is doing nothing I put the multimeter on and there was no power going through it. Appreciate you answering my question

Just because it wasn't doing anything doesn't mean it doesn't doing anything ...
What does that wire feed to ?

When I had my Series 3 LR my hazards were also too slow. I ended up replacing the flasher relay I think. Being Ex Military it was a bit more complicated.

Yes I’m going to order one just trying to workout if I should get the same one I got with the four connectors or get three connectors. Thanks for answering my questions.

I think the best thing would be to get a haynes manual and new flasher unit and hazard switch and replace the lot. My series never had one of those Hella units, just another four way flasher unit. I couldnt get my hazards to work reliably so I replaced both units and now all is well. Your Hella unit is an aftermarket part fitted by a.previous owner so the wiring is anybodies guess.
