Front hub nut ,any ideas???

hi all

more ####ing problems lol

right need to change the rubber boot on the cv on the front of my hippo, should be a easy job !!!! but hell no!!!!!

i tried to undo the hub nut :-( and i do mean tried!!!!
i ensure the knock tab was out so nut should come off quit easy ,but hell no!!!!!
the only long rachet i9 had was my trusty torque wrench ,which ive had for years and it has managed to undo anything!!! (i no you should not use them for undoing before anyone says lol)

but after jumping on the ####ing thing it SnApPED !!!!!:mad::mad::mad:
so seeing im in the army next best thing a torque wrench from a TANK!!!!!

only prob was they use inch square sockets not 3/4
so

trusty welder out lol

no way that welds going to fail!!!!

as you can see above its one hell of a torque wrench !!!!! ( i set it too the nm of 400!!!!!)

no joy then 550nm


took it to its max of 800nm!!!!!!!!!!!

and no way the ####ing torque wrench clicked (well it concertinas to be fair)
at 800nm the nut still stays in place!!!!!!!

my back hub nut came off quit easy its just this ####er

i have air tools myself ,i will try them next ,if not will try a chisel lol or a blow torch

or if that fails for the first time in 20yrs i may think of going to the garage !!! NOT!!!!! NEVER!!!!! I WILL GET THIS OFF ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!!!!!!!
 
Keep at it mate, you are thinking it through and trying different methods, a garage will end up splitting it off and charging £50...Good luck and keep thread informed :)
 
a garage will just use an impact gun, if that fails they will use heat to get it off. Try chiselling the nut round, sometimes it needs the hammering action to free it off hence the reason just a bar wont always work
 
now now lads he already said he had done it . I know this is not much help to you but I got a three quarter inch extending drive from Machine mart that did the trick try to get somebody to sit in and have there foot on the brake ,now I know it sounds sill but if you are on you own the wheels tend to creep and that gives way a bit . if failing that do you have a large nut splitter ,as you tighten down it splits the nut one side. where abouts are you .if you were close I would bring along that extending bar.

if its that that you dont try and chisel it round you split it across a flat ,heat will just bugger wheel bearing

Heat will melt what grease you have in the bearing and melt everything else, if they put that much on it ...and they will coz it's not theirs ...
 
I had a tough time undoing mine, 3/4" gun wouldn't budge it so I used a breaker bar with a loooong pole. Got in the end
 
They are about the tightest thing on this here earth! Don't really need to be so tight when doing them back up either! I just kept trying with a 4ft bar and snapped one in the process but go there in the end. Failing that have a garage loosen the nut with gun / bar then drive home and finish the job
