yes. i'm back again. the beloved P38 sold a couple of weeks ago the day after it sold, the 2006 4.2SC had the nearside front half shaft come out on the M3.

Recovered to a range rover specialist local to me, he replaced the half shaft with new. it happened again on the test drive, so he replaced it with another new one, happened again, replaced the clips again with new, happened again. car was dropped back to me early this week. first time i drove it today got about 6 miles to pick my daughter up and it failed again. car is being recovered in the morning, but there seems to be an issue here with the half shaft coming out of the diff.

has anyone experienced this problem before?

The only thing i can think of is has a mount moved or gone my father had a traffic that used to pop drive shafts and the would be refitted and told its all ok be the garages till i did it again, we had a look and found a mount had gone and it was all out off line, worth a look.

yeah that's what i wondered. i had new track arms ball joints and hub knuckles 2 years ago and well to be frank, mileage has minimal for 18 months with WFH.

i had a response from FFRR form someone who had the same issue, turns out he fitted an optimal drive shaft, which Optimal [place under the same P/N but is shorter (linky fullfatrr.com - View topic - Left front driveshaft ) it was an optimal drive shaft fitted. so going back with the original one with new clips

Sound like you may have found your cause with that make driveshaft if they are 50mm short that is a lot, and all it needs is the right suspension and steering angle and hay presto the shaft pops:(

On the traffic it only happened if you were on full lock, normal driving it was fine but as you turn thats when the shaft is at end of travel
