This happened after I replaced the front drive shafts (after taking hub off) and could it be due to tightening up the drive shaft nuts with gearbox in "Park". I think I have caused something to mis aligne in the transfer box. Maybe the round disc under the blue cover on the transfer box motor????
I took off the transfer box motor and put it manually into high, put the motor into high position (fully clockwise by putting 12+ to yellow wire and -to orange) , remounted motor and took fuse out. Now I drive in high only with no message and indicator noise back, no sport mode either........any ideas as to why it sticks in low with select neutral message?

I doubt you have the physical strength to damage the transfer box tightening up bolts. Corroded connectors, damaged wiring toasted transfer ECU, Hi/Lo switch operated by the gear lever would be my first port of call.

I agree , At least I now have the car running and I will next check out the ECU and H/L switch as you suggest.........at least these are cheap parts!! Incidently the car has only done 50,000miles from new (1995, P38 4.6) so I know there is no major wear and tear.

No. Passenger side on top of the EAS ECU.

I would think it might be the cable adjustment on the gear selector lever. It might not think it is in neutral when you have it in that position. So I would be looking at the gear lever or cable.
