What I wana know is (as I have a set off the Disco) will 235/70/16 macho's tyres be OK for the time being as the originals are knacked and I have to get it through a French MOT, yeh I know but if it will pass a U.K one with those tyres it will give me an idea.

Your thoughts please on tyres & MOT.

Oh yeh and it's leaning to one side, weak spring? anyone got a quick fix, like popping a few washers in to level her up.

Cheers

Jason

Hi there, I don't know if you are familiar with the French Contrôle Technique, but if you want I can give you a few pointers - pm me.

Cheers Dave!

Not got a problem with the French C.T, have been here before it even existed (pre 1992).

Just wanted to know about them tyre sizes!

The C.T states (to the best of my knowledge) that the vehicle must have the same tyre sizes as factory fitted.Which for a Land Rover is a bit silly and what about all them boy racers with Carlos Vandango wheels?

It will depend how much data they have refernce to for landrovers , probably a bit rare in france so you may well be OK as you could argue standard option . you have to balance cost against giving it a go ?

Its probably more of a load range and speed rating thing rather than actual profile HTH

don't be tempted to try the 'give it a go' idea, i tried that with me jag, which are also a bit rare in france he just put vin into computor and sed you can have 225/65 15 (which are only made by 1 or possibly 2 tyre makers and cost an arm and two legs apiece)
or a 16" size. as i had fitted 235/60 15 for the CT i then had to go and buy a set of 225/65's.

take a trip to yer local CT station with yer CG and ask what tyres he'll pass for use on yer landy and save any hassle

With respect, that is quite wrong. All the Contrôle Technique (mot) centres here were computerised many years ago and get Full File dumps of vehicles specs from all the motor manufacturers and importers.:D

They will have at their disposal as much if not more info regarding the vehicle than their UK counterparts.

Incidently, you see loads of Landys here, not are at all.;)

Got a reply from a local French 4x4 forum saying that I will have no problem putting the 235/70/16 mitchel syncros off the Disco for the C.T (MOT)

Better than the TT's as they can give dodgy break test results.

Sorted.

All I've got to do is spend another day welding the chassis up;)

Thought I would let you know how the control tech (French mot) went!

Could'nt be bothered to swap the wheels over from the Disco, so I took it with "Greenway Machos" Failed on headlights (knew that already as they are the original English ones) and 2 track rod ends, Not bad eh for a car that's 23 years old & not been on the road for over 2 years.
