have you been looking at the freelander forum? you should, its full of people having problems with them even under warranty, and it seems that not even the landrover mechanics can find the faults.
one owner had his conk out at 70mph(do they go that fast) with a warning light on. The dealer couldn't find the fault and told him to carry on driving with the light lit!! what a car!! you get a warning light on then the people that are suposed to know tell you to ignore it. so if you can ignore it why is it there in the first place. bells and whistles come to mind here.
maybe it was the "curling tongs are ready light"
not only that they have clunks and bangs and grinds and groans and lots of plastic bits, alarms that go off and windows that open if you wash them.
"yes sir! we couldn't find the fault so we changed every thing, and we've given you a new warranty, 20,000 miles or until you reach the public road"
" bye sir, see you next week"
