Hi guys, I have a 2001 Freelander 2.5 V6 KV6

Bought it only 1500km's ago, has been running fine, all of a sudden decided it doesn't want to start. Cranks but not firing at all. I have changed the ECU which didn't do anything. The engine runs on the spray starter fluid so there is spark. I have tried a noid set with the injectors and it seems they aren't firing at all..
Would I be right in thinking a possible crank or cam position sensor failure? If so how do I know which one?

Put an OBD2 reader on it to check for logged codes. It's worth checking the injector harness as wires often chaff or break. When you swapped the ECU did you reprogram it to match the imobilizer ECU? If not it will never run.
What was the engine doing before it failed to start?

My OBD 2 port doesn't want to be read by any scanner I have, I've seen online that it can only be read by a couple of tools, both of which are very expensive.

The car had stalled 3 or 4 times at low speeds in the last 200kms of it running. The last time it was running it was fine until I went to start it again, kicked in for a second or so, stalled and from then on has not fired at all. Obviously as I have proved because the injectors aren't firing.

Didn't reprogram the ECU, not sure how I'm meant to do that??

Just too me it seems like a crank or cam sensor failure, don't know if you agree thats possible?

First off if you don't programme the engine ECU to match the alarm ECU it will never start!! The engine ECU has to receive the correct code from the alarm ECU. If the codes don't match the fuel pump and injectors are inhibited. The ECU can only programmed by using T4.
You need to re fit the old ECU and try it again. The Siemens ECU fitted is an extremely reliable unit anyway.
The data port is OHD2 compliant and should work with most generic readers. The ports can suffer connector problems with the contacts widening.
If the engine has stalled but started again you could have a faulty fuel pump.

Car just died. No noise and gave gearbox issue. After researching, I ordered two new batteries as the other ones were dead. Now cranks but no start.
