Freelander Turbo vent filter

Hello everyone . My wife and I moved to Spain two years ago and live in a rented country villa so we had to buy a 4x4 . The secondhand cars in Spain are very over priced and the system to buy one and get it registered is laughable . All we could find and afford was a 2003 Freelander 1 TD4 and this has cost quite a bit in repairs whilst we've owned it . Currently I am checking over the car because it seems to have been neglected as far as maintenance is concerned .
I am waiting for a crankcase filter and turbo vent filter at the moment from Ebay but can anyone tell me which is the correct way for the turbo vent filter . Mine has an arrow in the clear plastic so should this point in direction of the engine or point to the atmosphere .

Hi and welcome

The arrow points towards the tube , so it’s sucking air into the tube , therefore filtered :)
 
Thank you for the reply . This explains why my existing filter appears dusty and dirty at the arrow end so of course after the filter it will be clean air .
I'm sure I will have more things to ask soon .

Another question regarding my Freelander . After christmas this year I removed the propshaft because we really don't need 4x4 in the summer the only thing is that we got used to a little quieter running and a little better fuel economy . Now the weather is getting wetter so I have replaced the propshaft (we live in the campo/countryside ) . We have a whirring noise now which isn't horrible but because we were used to driving with hardly any noise it's a bit frustrating .
I have just checked the rear diff and the oil is at a correct level and seems to be quite clean then I checked the IRD transfer box and again the level of oil is good and clean . The viscous coupling doesn't appear to have been leaking so that just leaves the rubber mounted propshaft support bearings what do you think ?

Don't panic.

The forum is made up of several sections. This one is the Introduction section. There are many more including vehicle specific sections. One of these is deadicated to Freelander's. Click ont link below and yer'll find it.
