freelander rear window

G'day
I've ben having trouble with my 1999 freelanders rear window. When I push open in the car the window closes and when I try to close the window it opens. This means I can't open the rear tailgate without putting the rear window all the way down first because it doesn't drop the couple of inches when I pull the rear door latch. Anyone got any tips?
