Freelander Project IV (Bertie)

Your LP pressure is 49.60 Psi. This is a little low, but not much. Mine is about the same at full power RPM. That's full throttle, maximum revs. That's the only sure way to check the LP pump pressure.

I figured it wasn't critical yet but when you can hear the fuel pump over the sound of the engine then, maybe it's time to do something about it before it becomes an issue.
Also 342 was not the lowest I saw.

Pump arrived yesterday so once I've finished working on SWMBO's 4 door (which will probably be up for sale soon as she is happy driving Bertie) I'll get it fitted.

After 2001 Freelander plastics are all nice and black, apart from the wing mirrors that is.
Berties mirrors were a dull grey colour so over the hols I decided to do something about it. on my last car I used Carplan back to black but that is only ever a temporary solution so on Bertie I decided to have a go at spraying them. This is them before.

I used my new favourite spray paint, black stone chip and the result is great with a nice texture and hopefully hard wearing.

Noisy Fuel Pump
Since buying Bertie I've been very conscious of the demented bee sound coming from the LP fuel pump and been a bit concerned it could give up the ghost anytime. Tonight I did some checks with my i930 and found it is a little low on tickover giving between 387 - 390psi. That is only a few psi lower than my other Freelander but at 3k rpm it is a full 40psi lower at approx 340psi when the other car is showing 380psi.
New Bosch fuel pump ordered.

Has anyone used this stone chip paint on the bumpers? I have a hole in my back bumper and thought that, instead of replacing maybe I can repair and spray all the plastics. Any suggestions, please?

If you treat the plastic correctly (appropriate primer etc) and the paint itself is suitably flexible, then I don't see why not?

The stone chip has no texture so the repair might be obvious unless you can get texture in the filler. Maybe better to use raptor as it has a texture of its own. DD used it to freshen up his L series bumpers.

It is low on the bumper so I probably could get away with it not being noticed. But I need to know, what is Raptor? Also please who makes the stonechip you use? Thanks.

Raptor paint or truck bed liner paint. Same idea http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Hycot...760830?hash=item2caad6bcfe:g:CyIAAOSwGYVXB-4e
I've used two types of stone chip, This stuff gives great coverage http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...air/stone-chip-protection/?549774241&&cc5_712
And this stuff is a bit thiner http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...torers/hammerite-stonechip-shield-black-600ml
Not sure which is best but either would be fine and give a really nice satin finish.

Thanks Ali, I'll get some in for when the weather clears up my way. No garage :(

I was watching this last night. Might be worth a go

I think others have tried that with varying degrees of success. Maybe it is OK for a small area but less successful for large areas like a bumper.

Does the heat gun fix make a grey bumper black? I thought it just brought them back to their original colour.

Edit, Rob beat me to it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr
Lower wishbone bolt!
The long one that goes through the two lower wishbone arms and the hub, I knew this was going to be a pain but OMG I've been fighting with the first one for over an hour and no sign of it moving. I thought if I cut the bolt in the middle it would come out OK but no joy. It seems to be welded to both the hub and the bushes!
Anyone out there have any sensible ideas how to loosen it?
I have new bolts and bushes so not concerned about harming them.
