Freelander 1 Freelander one thing after another...Pulley slap!!

I am in no way technical so therefore need the advice of those who know far better than I. Am I flogging a dead... freelander?

We have only had it for three years but in between the day to day wear and tear with tyres, brakes etc it has been one thing after another.

• It started with a split in one of the pipes connected to the anti-freeze
• Then the VCU seized
• Then the turbo seized
• I then had one belt tear on me, that was replaced
• Still didn't sound right, had the tensioner, pulley and belt replaced
• Then that belt split as a result of the replacement tensioner seizing,
• I now have another new pulley, belt and tensioner but still have a pulley slap noise which is increased by turning on lights/heating/aircon etc. My mechanic is perplexed our local land rover expert seems to be too. The only other thing they believe it could be is the alternator, but he tested it and all seems to be working OK.

So if anyone has any suggestions we would be hugely grateful or should we just move on?

Are you using OE parts? Have you changed the belt?

The first lot of replacement pulley/tensioner/belt wasn't but the new parts that are on now are OE. Gone through three belts altogether, the mechanic ran the car and watched the last one break, so then found that the tensioner had seized which caused the belt to break.

What pulley do you have fitted at present and what belts also, ? as the pulley bolt been tightened up as it should be ?

Not sure which pulley and belts are fitted our mechanic has done it all for us. The pulley bolt has definitely been tightened as he had mentioned that to us.

Personally I would not fit any other pulley than the Corteco link below.
