Freelander Newbie

Hi All,

Just procured myself a 2002 1.8i petrol Freelander. I bought this even after reading all about the HGF issues with these engines but needs must and I took the gamble.

To top it all got this from a car auction ......talk about seat of your pants stuff but looking forward to my time with my first ever 4x4.

I too have a 1.8 petrol Freelander 1 which I am well pleased with. If you want a mud plugger or rock crawler it will not be the car for you but if you want something that is surprisingly capable off road, that is comfortable to ride in, that has all the creature comforts you will need and is able to drag a trailer loaded with 750 kilos of logs out of muddy woods then you should not be dissapointed. Yes, they have issues but now you have one you will notice that there are a lot of them about, they can't all be 'dogs' and unlike fenders and discos they, generally speaking, do not rot. You will not read many positive comments about them on this site. Trattor boys and girls love nothing better than slagging off hippos and take every opportunity to do so. Let them go. At least you will be able to drive your hippo in the coldest winter weather without having to wear thick socks a scarf and wooly undies, your heater will work and so will the aircon. Aircon in fenders is supplied by the gaps in the ill fitting doors. Talking of doors, surprisingly, they do not fall off when wet. Get out there and enjoy.
