Hey all
I need a competent Freelander enthusiast or mechanic within or near London to sort the issues with my motor.
Any recommendations please.

Its not that difficult a question. I need a competent enthusiast or LandRover mechanic (apart from the obvious LANDROVER main dealer repair shop.
Within London or not to far from, that knows the LandRover Freelander in and out to do paid work on my Freelander.

Mad Hat Man, are you stoned fella, as we are defo not on the same page mate. What more information would a person need, unless your asking without asking what it is that's wrong with the vehicle I have no idea what information you need?

Not stoned, but you are particularly obtuse! Not the same page??? I am not sure you are on the same planet!
Why do you need an expert On Freelander1, Freelander2, NAS spec, TD4, KV6, K1.8 and L series Freelanders?
You haven't said whether the problem is electrical, mechanical, engine or drive train related.
If you don't know any of that, you are beyond help - I am out.

Good luck Nodge - yu got a good one here :D.

Don't be insulting fella, about obtuse, easy to say from behind a computer screen, should be a little more specific as to what it was you want know in future maybe then you would get a simple answer and you wouldn't have to be so rude. I asked a very simple question, you made it complicated. DH

Lack of hill power and black smoke. I have changed the turbo hoses, and the long vac tank hose but still the same. another member here has just pointed out something to test which I will in about 30 mins. it seems that there Is no turbo filter at the end of one of the hoses as in the photo ive uploaded if you would like to take a look.

hi

so you've replaced all 3 hoses , along with all the vacuum hoses , vacuum hoses run under the inlet manifold and one of the favourite places to get a hole in them

1) has the crankcase breather been replaced ,
2) egr blanked ,
3)maf sensor removed and cleaned ,
4)unplugged the map sensor to see if the performance improves

if u get someone sit in the landy with the engine running , look at the turbo actuator u should see the arm move

there is a hose that comes off the turbo actuator which should connect to the clear filter, only had a hose on one end will try and find a picture of it

has this been like it since you've owned it please

sorry for so many questions

by the way , does your engine look like this with the extra sensor left hand side and the short piece of hose inserted , right by where the engines dipstick is

this is just silicone hoses fitted

by the way , have u seen this link

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td4-lack-of-power-at-70mph-fixed.77147/

So if you have lack of power on hills at 70mph, try this test. Pull pipe 1 off the turbo and drive a 70mph hill and see if it cures your issue. If it does, voila it's the boost solenoid. With the pipe off it will be a little sluggish at low speed accels as it won't be able to close the vanes for fullboost, but it's fine to drive in order to do your 70mph test.

For info pipe 1 is solenoid vacuum to turbo, pipe 2 is vac supply to solenoid from the plastic reservoir at the side of the engine, pipe 3 is the solenoid vent to fresh air via the little filter. Check these for holes as they rub various engine parts. Also worth checking that your boost solenoid filter isn't blocked, as this would prevent the solenoid from releasing the vacuum and cause the same symptom. Fair chance it's ok though and your solenoid is bust.

Sorry Mr Stuart please forgive my naivety I've only had my Freelander three weeks and until now have never been under the bonnet of any vehicle other than to top up the windscreen fluid. This is all a major learning curve for me.
The crank case filter has not been replaced as yet, I have just received the service parts today that I ordered last week, Mann oil filter, Mann Fuel filter, Air filter and would like to order if its a sensible thing to do the upgraded oil separator/crank case filter and have not yet purchased engine oil as I'm not sure which I should use.
As for the MAP sensor, I have no idea what that is or where its located. I also do not know what the Turbo actuator is.
I got the car three weeks ago, and went from London to Devon for the bank holiday weekend with it, it was only on the hills and when I kicked down that I noticed the lack of power and black smoke. had never driven one before that so didn't know how it should perform.. so I guess it had been like that since I got it..
