Hello,

my Freelander TD4 automatic (2002, 319tkm) has started to change gears quite harsh. 3rd gear works fine but when changing to any other gear there is a jump in changing. It feels that car won't reduce torque, it just puts bigger or smaller gear on.

Went to diagnostics this morning and no fault codes(?).

I tried to measure resistance from computer connector, 2-4 Brake duty solenoid resistance is four time bigger than line pressure solenoid resistance though they should be the same. But if this is problem shouldn't it also give a fault code?

Transmission oil changed last week also with no impact on problem.

Any ideas where to start change parts?

I'n getting new used transmission computer to test next weekend, that would be easy fix...

Hi Miojala,
I know one person fixed this issue with replacing solenoids. Replacing solenoids isn't a gearbox out task, they are located where the fluid pan is. I know you said you changed the transmission fluid, when you did so, did you do it according to land rover procedure? (i.e - that the fluid be between 35 and 45 deg. celsius when you opened the check level bolt with engine running)?

Problem solved.
Firstly changed batteries to my resistance meter after that it started to show correct resistance values from barrel connector. New measurements confirmed that all other solenoids besides 2-4 brake duty were within given limits.
Ordered and changed solenoid which was quite easy job with Jatco manual and Hippo's pictures I found.
In my opinion there was little too much oil after service because there was leak from inspection hole when changing gear.
But now car runs again without jumps.

I bought also iCarsoft fault code reader but for somehow it couldn't get connection to trasmission controller. Same thing with spare controller. I'm suspecting that gearbox is changed already once because -02 car has -03 dates at oil pan cover.
