I cant seem to find any threads regarding the Freelander 2 on this forum so I thought I would start one. Forgive me if I missed out threads on Freelander 2.

Does anyone have any views about this vehicle on and off road?

Id agree with you there. My dad just got one and it puts my 2004 HSE to shame, very nice.
It surprised me when I took my 2004 Freelander in for a service and I got a Freelander S auto for the day. Even the S feels decent alrite its got a big hole in the dash instead of a nav but new Td4 is a much better engine.

My thoughts are:

Looks bland, run of the mill japanese styling, no carisma, over priced £21k-30k and over-sized, its nearly as high as a disco.

LR have lost the plot with their styling.

Plus you dont have as many choices in body design that the FL 1 had, that was why it was so successful. Infact you have no choice

You could get a whole lot more car for your money with the japanese rivals, and they have even more gizmos, 2wd/4wd option

Plus!

Tom from 5th gear, you know the beardy one with long hair was doing a test drive.

He was commentating on how more capable it was off-road, so capable he couldnt master the mud plugging section, they had to get a LR designer to show him how to drive it.

Plus, it has tacky fake wooden upholstry, whilst driving up a grassy slope he suddenly turns to the camera and says "WHAT'S THAT!" with a gastly look of horror and disgust at the shoddy trim.

You think LR would have learned from the FL1 with its brightly coloured toy-town plastic trim

fredjack ;)

I have been told that this weeks Top Gear (Sunday 25th Nov) will show coverage of their efforts in the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone. If so it will go something like this,

Stig drives quickly (for a diesel)
May drives slowly
Clarkson talks a lot
and Hampster crashes!

give me scrapheap challenge anyday of the week.

they film that in me garden

so er in doors tells me

......... the only good episode of that was when they had to build something that flew - the french "thing" left the ground for about 3 seconds, the brit thing flew figure eights, did touch and goes and i'm sure if they'd let him he'd have looped it - all made outta dead fridges

probably

5th Gear is Top Gears cheaper and less popular brother.

I had the pleasure of off roading in all the LR models at Land Rover centres over the years and although both Freelanders are super off road Freelander 2 is more able off road. It can approach water at a steeper angle for instance and Terrain Response is very good, dont you remember Clarkson climbed that huge mountain in scotland using his D3 with terrain response and dont fink he's good at off roading. Terrain response is a good addition, but you still got to know how to drive properly!

Why? Freelanders are suprisingly capable off road.

And remember, this is coming from a D90 owner! They are different. They need driving differently. They have different capabilities.

Cheers

Let me guess sirus your a die hard that likes nothing but series 1 land rovers. They are super in context of there size and class. Have you drove both Freelanders?
I am fanatical about all Land Rovers and therefore like them all from Defender to Rangie. But as Land Rover owners we to remember its vehicles like the Freelander that sells in volume and keeps Land Rover a float as well as all those nasty Range Rover Sports with 20000 Inch rims and blacked out windows.

But as Land Rover owners we to remember its vehicles like the Freelander that keeps Land Rover a float

thas funny - i fort that.....

1) Land Rover went belly up and
2) its only the spares and repairs that are charged at ridiculous rates that help Land Rover (Ford).

the Freelander is a vehicle that was poorly designed, poorly built and pooly executed.

in other words a waste of space.

Sirus im glad I can make you laugh! So you dont like Freelanders at all?

I love freeloaders...............

They are great..................

At what they are....

Womens shopping trolleys and Gay blokes Saturday night passion wagons....

I did mention the freelander were the wifes car dint I:eek:

I like the look of the freelander 2...But my dad who has owned 3 freelanders. was shocked at the price...as he went to look at 1 with a view to buying. He said he would have been happier if they had left out some of the toys and all the tacky trim and kept the price a bit more realistic.
Plus they went to a 2.2 litre which i think falls into a higher tax bracket.
There are a lot of silly mistakes..especially when the new xtrail has gone down to 2.0 litres but is pushing out 178 bhp.
I think the slittys are gonna get a lot more of this type of market.
One more thing several of his friends all wanted to change to the new freelander.
Sad part is they all went and bought different marks in the end because of the price.
